Stock Android device collection image shows Galaxy S5 three times

A version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 with a stock installation of Android could be on the way, according to reports. Following the launch of Android Lollipop, version 5.0 of the mobile operating system, Android.com has been updated with new images and information, with one image seemingly showing the Galaxy S5 amid other Google Play Edition and Nexus devices.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra, LG G Pad 8.3, HTC One M7 removed from Google Play

The roster of Google Play Edition devices available from Google Play directly has halved in size. Thee of the six smartphones involved in the program, which offered stock Android on popular devices, have been permanently removed from sale after being listed as out of stock since last month, though neither Google nor the manufacturers involved have provided any explanation for the disappearance.

Minor Android update fixes battery drain bug, improves performance

Google has started to roll out a minor software update bringing Android to version 4.4.3. Starting this week and rolling out gradually to users, the update will first head to Nexus devices, starting with the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, with a number of Google Play Edition smartphones and recent Motorola devices also reportedly receiving the Android upgrade.

LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition is the best LG tablet yet

LG has taken some time to gain traction in the mobile devices segment, watching on as its arch-rival Samsung has taken the spotlight with its Android-powered Galaxy S smartphones, Galaxy Tab tablets and Galaxy Note devices. Consumer acceptance of its devices, however, has started to grow as a result of its strategic partnership with Google on the popular Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones. The rumor mill also points to Google tapping LG to develop the successor to the Samsung made Nexus 10 tablet, or possibly an 8-inch variant of the LG G Pad 8.3 being reviewed here. Although not a Nexus device, the LG G Pad 8.3 is a special Google Play Edition version of LG's tablet that runs a stock version of Google's Android. LG G Pad 8.3 gets the stock Android KitKat experience

In the past couple of months Google has expanded the number of devices that it is selling through the Google Play Store. Joining its Nexus branded devices co-developed with Android partners is an expanded line of Google Play Edition devices all running stock Android. Among the updated range is the LG G Pad 8.3, which offers an appealing alternative sitting between the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 as it does with its intermediate screen size.
