Service to compete with eBay, Amazon
Google has announced that its same-day shipping program is now available to the general public in much of the Bay Area peninsula, from San Francisco to San Jose. The service, known as Google Shopping Express, had begun as a limited pilot program early this year.
Likely storage locker service to work with Google Shopping Express
Google-owned storage locker startup BufferBox is expanding its reach to San Francisco. The expansion from Canada to San Francisco comes at the same time as the search giant commences testing of a same-day delivery service, suggesting that BufferBox and Google Shopping Express may either work together or, after a successful trial, be combined into one service.
Google Shopping ceasing free listings by the fall
Google is changing formats for its Google Product Search service from free to paid. Merchants will no longer have the luxury of free listings on the service, now rebranded Google Shopping, with merchants having to pay to be listed. A Google blog post writes that the search engine believes it will encourage merchants to “keep their product information fresh and up to date,” improving search results for the end user.
