11/05, 12:20pm

Canon XH A1S and XH G1S

Canon today chose an unusual mid-day update to launch a pair of updates to its pro HDV tape camcorders. The XH A1S and XH G1S both have had their 20X zoom lenses upgraded to give better control over focus, irising and zoom as well as camera firmware that lets users adjust the zooming speed to deliver a more natural feel to pull-in or pull-out shots. Audio has also been given a boost with two XLR inputs at varying sensitivity, the ability to record with external and built-in mics at the same time, and overall better sound performance.

ClipWrap m2t converter

Divergent Media has announced ClipWrap for the Mac, an m2t batch converter for creating QuickTime HDV files. The software is a rewrapping tool, moving video and audio streams to a QuickTime container. In theory this avoids generational loss through re-encoding, and saves hours of encode time.

Canon XL H1S and H1A

Both the relatively budget-minded XL H1A and the updated XL H1S now have a new version of Canon's 20X lens that offers more control over the focus, iris, and zoom. The image processor also widens the scope of color changes, improves noise reduction, and supplies a larger range of gain and white balance settings.
