Monitors take from tablet, smartphone tech
LG has announced a new monitor series, labeled IPS5, that is built using in-plane switching (IPS) panels. The technology, which is utilized by smaller products such as the iPad and iPhone, offers a much wider viewing angle when compared to standard LCDs. LG also claims its new monitors provide improved color reproduction, with color-calibration reports provided with each unit when it leaves the factory.

High-quality, wide-viewing angles, coming soon
LG has introduced a new line of IPS Series 6 displays at a Japanese press conference this week. The two new models introduced include the 21.5-inch IPS226V and the 23-inch IPS236V. LG put the displays side-by-side with TN and VA panels and the difference in picture quality was striking.

UK ISPs get ad standard
Ofcom, the UK communication industry's independent regulator, is planning to make a voluntary standard for Internet providers to follow when advertising their maximum connection speeds. More than 90 percent of the country's ISPs agreed to complying with the new code, which would give customers a more accurate comparison of performance between companies when shopping for a new provider.
