Original rumors pointed to earthquake delay
Acer has finally committed to a launch date for its Iconia Smart handset, which is now promised to arrive sometime in September. Although the company has yet to disclose specific reasons for the delay, rumors suggest the Japan earthquake may have been a contributing factor. Most other products that were affected by the earthquake, however, did not face such a lengthy hiccup in production.

Acer Iconia Tab A100 delayed due to optimization
Acer's decision to delay the Iconia Tab A100 may have come from learning a hard lesson from Apple, sources hinted Wednesday. The tablet was moving from its June target to either August or September as Acer had discovered that Android 3, an OS designed primarily for 10-inch tablets, wasn't working properly on a seven-inch design. With many apps not working properly, Acer was waiting in the hopes Google will have solved the problems later, Digitimes heard.

Acer Iconia Smart headed for North America
The Acer Iconia Smart 4.8-inch Android smartphone has finally reached the FCC. First announced late last year, then unveiled at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona in February this year, little had been heard about it again until now. The FCC has been testing its radiation compliance and the process has revealed that the phone has 850, 1900 and 2100MHz frequencies.

Apple may fight Android with four-inch iPhone
Apple is looking at expanding the iPhone's screen size to four inches in what could be a battle with Android phones, component makers said Tuesday. Test production runs have reportedly gone to the larger screen area. The move as explained by Digitimes would help bridge the gap between the iPhone and the iPad.

Company finally details flagship smartphone
Electronista finally had a chance to take a closer look at Acer's 4.8-inch smartphone, which has been named the Iconia Smart. The device was first introduced late last year, but the company did not provide full details until this week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. With a 1024x480 display, the flagship smartphone represents one of the more unique Android offerings to arrive this year.
