Intel prepping HD 4000 firmware update for April, will boost performance 10 percent
Intel says that it is preparing an update for the integrated HD 4000 GPU found in its third-generation mobile ‘Ivy Bridge’ Core processors, reports Ultrabook News. The firmware update will fix bugs while also boosting performance by up to 10 percent while simultaneously improving battery life. The update, which is scheduled to arrive in April, will be welcome performance boost for ultrabook owners and others who depend on Intel’s integrated graphics for their systems.

Existing Pentium, Celeron lines replaced with new processors
Over the weekend, Intel added seven CPUs to its budget line of Ivy Bridge-based processors. Seven new models have been added to the Pentium and Celeron lines. The Celeron family has added the G1610, G1610T, and G1620. The Pentium line sees the G2010, G2020, and G2020T. Also supplementing the lower end of the Intel range is the new Core i3-3210. All processors work in existing socket 1155 motherboards.

Intel said working on special ultra low voltage version of Ivy Bridge die
Intel is rumored to be prepping a version of its Ivy Bridge processor with ultra low voltage capabilities making it more suitable for the current generation of Windows 8 tablets, reports CNET . According to ‘an industry source,’ the new class of Ivy Bridge CPU will draw significantly less power than even the 17-Watt Ivy Bridge chip found in current ultrabooks and the MacBook Air. The new chip is expected to make full-power Windows 8 tablets lighter and more appealing.

New thin and light laptops sport Ivy Bridge, A8 processors
Earlier this week, Lenovo unveiled new entries in its S Series line of laptops, the IdeaPad S300, S400, and S405. The new laptops each measure less than an inch thick and weigh less than four four pounds. The S Series entries bear a metallic finish and contain either Ivy Bridge processors from Intel or AMD A-Series processors. The new models come with up to a 14-inch HD widescreen display, HDMI output, stereo speakers, and Dolby Advanced Audio v2 certification.

Motion Computing tablets get SSDs, Ivy Bridge, steep price tags for professionals
Motion Computing has introduced two new Windows-powered rugged tablets this week with the C5t and F5t. Either weighs about 3lbs and sports a 10.4-inch touchscreen display with 1024x768 resolution. The C5t is meant for work indoors, as only the F5t has an optional View Anywhere display for viewing in direct sunlight.
The portable PCs aren't cheap, with prices starting at $2,236. Three year warranties are included in the price tags, however.

AE2281G version allows for GPU shut-off when not required
MSI has introduced two new all-in-one PCs. The Wind Top AE2281 and AE2281G self-contained systems use 21.5-inch displays and are powered by 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processors using 4GB of RAM, upgradable to 8GB. The built-in Smart Media Link lets the systems take advantage of DLNA-supported devices, while the Smart Sync allows cross-platform contact and media synchronization without the need to create a backup.

Dell Inspiron 15R and 17R hit online Dell store
The revamped Dell Inspiron 15R and 17R models with Intel third-generation Core processors that first surfaced in Australia in May are now up for sale in the US. In addition to the revised internals, Dell has introduced a Special Edition model in both ranges that incorporates a special anodized aluminum Stealth Black honeycomb finish with matching palm rest. Both models also come preinstalled with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements as well.

Ruggedized laptop line upgraded, available July
Panasonic's Toughbook line has joined the ranks of Ivy Bridge-enhanced computers. The improved CF-19 features a 3.3GHz Core i5 processor inside a ruggedized magnesium case, which also protects a 10.1-inch touchscreen with 6000-nit brightness for use in direct sunlight.

Kepler-based NVIDIA graphics remain on IdeaPad Y580
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 has gone on sale though the company's website. The 15.6-inch notebook was last seen at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, and retains the Kepler-based NVIDIA graphics and Intel Ivy Bridge-based processor that were promised in the original announcement.

Earlier today, Acer America announced the newest addition to the Aspire series, the Aspire V5. Options include two display sizes and processor options including 3rd generation i3 or i5 Ivy Bridge CPUs. A budget option offers second-generation Sandy Bridge processors at the low end. Sony's first ultrabook due in June from $770
The Sony Vaio T13, is set to arrive in North America this month starting from $770. Although Sony claims that its Vaio Z series has ‘long exceeded ultrabook specifications,’ the T13 is the first Sony notebook to officially carry the ultrabook tag. Despite suggestions that they T13 would arrive with older 2nd-generation Core series processors, Sony has confirmed that they will instead be packing Intel’s latest 3rd-generation Core series ‘Ivy Bridge’ chips.

Ivy Bridge processors for ultrabooks revealed, Intel revises ultrabook requirements
Intel on Thursday launched its Ivy Bridge-series processors for notebooks and ultrabooks, following up on the release of the powerful Ivy Bridge CPUs late last month. Now, the dual-core and ultra-low voltage (ULV) chips came out, with them shipping in products in the near future. Intel promises 110 ultrabooks are planned to come out, broken down into 30 with touchscreens and 10 being convertibles.

Latitude to include max 256GB SSD capacity

Storage solution provider Iomega announced a new flagship product today, the Iomega StorCenter px12-450r Network Storage array, a networked data storage system incorporating an Ivy Bridge processor from Intel. Iomega also announced the addition of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise to all Iomega StorCenter PX series products. AMD has formally launched its next-generation Trinity Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). The company says that the improvements in architecture and Piledriver core has resulted in a chip that is twice as efficient per watt as its predecessor the Llano, despite sticking with a 32nm fabrication process. AMD says that based on price, its chips offer superior performance for each dollar spent against Intel’s latest 22nm Ivy Bridge (3rd generation Core series) processors.

Asus Zenbook UX32A and UX32Vd gain latest CPUs
Asus is improving the Zenbook lineup with another pair of aluminium-clad notebooks. NEC promises ultra-light magnesium-alloy bodied ultrbook this summer
NEC has introduced a new ultrabook PC, the LaVie Z. It gets a lithium-magnesium body that helps the 13.3-inch notebooks tip the scales at just 2.2lbs. Otherwise, specs aren't made available, but NEC is likely to infuse Intel's Ivy Bridge processors for ultrabooks once they become available.

Dell to upgrade notebooks for free with similarly-priced Ivy Bridge
With Dell recently revealing that its three Alienware gaming notebooks were upgraded to Intel Ivy Bridge processors, those who ordered the PCs before the announcement may have felt slightly cheated. Boutique gaming PC manufacturer Alienware users with outstanding laptop orders were informed by email today that the placed order is being upgraded to Ivy Bridge processors at no extra cost. No further delay in the placed order is expected. The Ivy Bridge upgrade is exclusive to Alienware orders, and will not apply to parent company Dell's orders placed before the Ivy Bridge announcement.

Alienware updates gaming notebook range
Alienware has officially revealed that it has updated its gaming notebook range with Intel's Ivy Bridge processors. This includes the M14x, M17x, and M18x, with the last one rumored to have received the update earlier. The leaked roadmap from earlier this year didn't mention the Ivy Bridge updates, however, though the new chips are finding their way into PCs from most other makers as well.

HP dv series gets 2012 Intel and NVIDIA tech

Origin PC took its turn at the high-performance ultraportable category Sunday with the EON11-S. Maingear Pulse 11 due in June for $1,100
Maingear just took the wraps off an upcoming 11.6-inch notebook, the Pulse 11. Japan's Mouse outs 2.2lb ultrabook, the LuvBook X
Japan's Mouse Computer has just unveiled its carbon fiber-bodied ultrabook, the LuvBook X, which looks very much like a MacBook Air competitor. It weighs just under 2.2lbs (less than a kilogram) and has an 11.6-inch, 1366x768 display. Processing power comes from one of two 1.6GHz Core i5 Ivy Bridge processors.

ASUS Ivy Bridge board hits 7GHz with all cores
ASUS is touting an overclocking record for its P8Z77-V Deluxe mainboard. Using a new Ivy Bridge-based 3.5GHz Core i7-3770K, the company successfully boosted the processor up to just short of 7GHz while keeping all four cores active. The feat also included 16GB of RAM running at over 3GHz with all four memory channels active, something not always possible at this level.

MSI GT60, GT70 gaming notebooks start at $1,500
MSI has begun US-based shipping for the gaming-oriented GT60 and GT70 notebooks that were introduced at CeBIT at the start of March. Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs coming to three AIOs soon
HP's Omni 27, Lenovo's A720 and ASUS' ET27 all-in-one PCs have all been upgraded to Ivy Bridge processors, or Intel's latest Core processors. Intel continued its Ivy Bridge deployment on Monday by providing extensive detail of the 13 processors that would make up the initial group. The line includes six quad Core i7 processors, including Intel's first truly moderate-power example. The 2.1GHz Core i7-3612QM uses 35W like Intel's usual dual-core notebook processors but still has up to eight program threads (using Hyperthreading), 6MB of cache, and up to a 3.1GHz Turbo Boost when streamlining itself to a single core.

Intel kicks off 22nm chip line in earnest
Intel on Sunday formally launched its Ivy Bridge processor range. The 22-nanometer chips will, as hinted, start off with 13 quad-core processors in the Core i5 and i7 families, primarily focuses on desktops as well as mid-size and large notebooks. Lower-end Core i3 and i5 chips, as well as ultrabook-friendly low-voltage processors, are coming later in the Spring, Intel said.

Upcoming Lenovo notebooks leaked in partner doc
A newly spotted partner listing (PDF) from Lenovo has shown off some upcoming models from the computer-maker. It includes new ThinkPad and IdeaPad models that weren't leaked earlier, including the ThinkPad T430s. This should be a replacement for the T420s and be a thin and light 14-inch notebook that doesn't quite meet the ultrabook criteria, unlike the T430u.

Lenovo leaks own Intel Ivy Bridge plans
A Lenovo reseller channel update (PDF has inadvertently revealed the company's plans to ship systems based on Intel's Ivy Bridge platform in June. Systems based on Chief River, the mainboard chipset plaform for Ivy Bridge processors, will be on sale for resellers on June 5. These stores won't get their units until September, but it's possible that Lenovo itself will ship PCs to end users sooner.

Intel Q1 2012 beats guidance but muted
Intel had relatively lackluster results that showed a dampened PC environment with most of its hope resting in the future. Its revenue was flat from year to year, at $12.9 billion. Intel hadn't divulged its exact PC Client group revenue in 2011 results, but it noted that the mostly desktop- and notebook-focused group's revenue was down seven percent from this past fall, to $8.5 billion.
