Partership between Mead and Kensington bring back classic imagery
Accessory manufacturer Kensington, in conjunction with Mead, are resurrecting the '80s school icon Trapper Keeper folio. A pair of Mead three-ring binders; the Trapper Keeper, Pee-Chee, and classic black notebook lines are being brought back to life as tablet cases for seven- and 10-inch tablets.
Kensington announces new 'Me' Folio cases for iPad Air and iPad mini
Mobile accessories company Kensington has announced its new line of Portafolio Me and Comercio Me customizable folio cases for iPad Air and iPad mini. Designed to allow for aesthetic customization, the folios feature a scratch-resistant picture window and removable panel for inserting any desired image for display. Special case models include one of thousands of officially-licensed designs and logos. The case design also incorporates SoundWave speaker channels that improve audio quality through redirecting sound towards the listener. Both folios are available in red and "smoke" color options, and are priced at $40.
Ergonomic case offers 22 unique positions
Accessories creator Felix has released its versatile case for iPad and iPad mini, the FlipStand. An ergonomic case that acts as a stand, the FlipStand provides 22 angled positions (16 for the FlipStand mini) for using an iPad for reading, browsing the Internet, watching videos, and more. Users can set a position by lifting the iPad to a desired position, and set it into any of its ridge to lock the device into place. Its kickstand holds the iPad under a secure clip on the case. Available in black and tan with white, the FlipStand retails for $50.
Thinium chargers offer thin profile, wall and portable charging options
Thinium has announced the debut of its line of slim portable chargers for mobile devices this week at CES. The Thinium Charge and Thinium ReCharge can charge a smartphone device as a wall charger, and can accommodate Android, Windows phones and iPhones.
Kensington announces Proximo's Android compatibility
Today Kensington, a mobile accessories company, announced that its Proximo app-enabled accessory, originally for iOS, is now compatible with Android. The Proximo system is designed to assist users in finding one's phone, keys or valuables easily, and ensures that misplacement doesn't occur.The Bluetooth 4.0 fob attaches to a user's keys, while an attachable tag can be used with a phone or other valuable, allowing users to then receive alerts when moving out of range from the other component. Proximo's app dashboard can track up to five items, including a customizable activity proximity meter. Proximo's app version 1.6 now supports Samsung Galaxy series Android phones, as well as iPhone. Proximo's starting package is priced at $60, with additional tags and fobs priced at $25 and $40 respectively.
App, Fob, Tag combination helps prevent device loss
Accessory manufacturer Kensington has produced peripherals for computing aficionados for years. A new gadget by the company is the Kensington Proximo security system, which leverages the Bluetooth 4 technology found in Apple's latest crop of devices and promises that the fob-and-app combo will help prevent expensive mobile device loss. Electronista was given the opportunity to evaluate the new technology, and put it through its paces over the last week.
Kensington offer combined cover and stand, back covers
Kensington's first case for Apple's newest handheld is the Protective Cover & Stand for iPad mini ($35), a slim hard-shell case with a velvet interior and a choice of three color combinations. The rear allows for unobstructed use of the iPad mini's rear camera, while the front cover can fold up into a triangular tube-shaped stand, allowing the iPad mini to be positioned in two different ways.
Griffin bands up with Otis James for designer iPhone cases
Otis James, a Nashville-based tie and hat maker, and accessory vendor Griffin have partnered to create a line of handmade protective sleeves for iPhone 4, 4S and 5 which will be sold exclusively in Griffin’s London store and on Griffin’s website. Griffin + Otis James iPhone Sleeves features the trademark Otis James hand-made design, with a pocket on front that stores credit cards and cash. The Griffin + Otis James cases are available beginning today for $75 on Griffin's website.
New wireless trackball offers centered design
Kensington has announced its Orbit Wireless Mobile Trackball and an update to its TrackBallWorks 1.1 software. The new trackball is designed specifically for mobile use, sized for easy carrying with a mid-sized, centered ball that can be easily removed for cleaning. It is wireless, operating on the 2.4GHz band, connecting via a USB dongle.

Kensington has demoed its upcoming Bluetooth Keyboard Case for the Apple iPad. The keyboard is built into the case, much like the Sena Bluetooth Keyboard case, which effectively turns the iPad into a touch screen netbook. Short cuts to iPad functions such as the homescreen button and media playback functions are included on the keyboard. To power the keyboard, the case integrates a built-in lithium-ion battery that is claimed to last up to three months on a single charge.
Kiwi Wifi/Bluetooth released
Kensington has announced that seven more of its products have received official iPhone 4 certification. The certified products include items designed for use at home, in the office, on-the-go, and in the car. The Kensington Charge and Sync Dock ($30) and Nightstand Charging Dock ($40) both provide users with options for charging their mobile device, while the Quick Release Car Mount ($30) and SoundWave ($40) allow users to mount and amplify their iPhone in the car.
Device charges all iOS devices, including iPad
MacNN reviewed the Kensington PowerBolt Micro Car Charger. The charger sits flush on the car power port, with a female USB port capable of powering any mobile device that connects via USB cables. The charger comes with a detachable USB-to-iPod cable that powers iPhones and iPads -- the latter device getting a fast charge from the 2.1 Amp PowerBolt.

Kensington on Tuesday announced the upcoming release of eight new accessories for mobile device users. Among them is the Travel Battery Pack and Charger for iPhone and iPod touch devices. The cable-free device doubles as a kickstand for hands-free viewing of movies in landscape mode. The battery pack has a built-in dock connector on one end and a USB connection on the other for recharging.
Kensington iPhone Sound Amplified Cradle
Kensington today provided users of any iPhone GPS app an option to improve the GPS navigation experience with a new peripheral. The Sound Amplified Cradle mounts to the windshield or a vent and passively doubles the volume of the built-in speaker to make spoken driving directions more audible. It's characterized as an ideal fit for NAVIGON's updated app but should also work for any iPhone mapping app that speaks its directions as well as in speakerphone calls.
Kensington TwoFold stands
Kensington on Tuesday announced the upcoming release of its TwoFold Notebook Stand and TwoFold Notebook Stand and Sleeve, either of which is designed to elevate the viewing screen on users' notebook PCs for reduced eye and neck strain, whether they are sitting, lying or sitting at a desk. The stands can accommodate notebooks between 14.1- and 15.4 inches in size, with straps that keep the notebook from sliding down. Either is available in either gray and blue or gray and green.
Kensington Dock w Battery
Kensington on Monday brought out a unique travel dock for iPhones and iPods. The Charging Dock with Mini Battery has a dock for both the Apple device itself but also a battery pack that attaches to the iPhone when it's in use. Attaching it gives an iPhone as much as 30 hours of extra music, 6 hours of web use or 3 hours of talk time; since both this and the iPhone share the same dock power, the two charge simultaneously and let users have the reserve power without occupying a second USB or power port.

Kensington has detailed its upcoming Nightstand Charging Dock for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, which includes an application available to download for free via the App Store. The Rise & Shine Clock & Weather application will turn the iPhone or iPod touch into a bedside clock and provide users with weather information. Throughout the night, the screen will not turn off, staying on all night just as a regular clock would. It could be set to dim, however.

Kensington intros products
Kensington on Tuesday announced a range of new products, including a hands-free car kit for use with Bluetooth cellphones, its SlimBlade TrackBall mouse and a pair of two space- and energy-efficient notebook chargers. The Bluetooth speaker clips onto vehicle's sun visors and can pair up with three different cellphones and holds three frequently-called phone numbers for each handset. Swapping between the three handsets or dialing any of the pre-programmed numbers is done via pressing a single button. Kensington has integrated noise-cancelling technology for the device that makes calls loud and clear. Two battery packs are included, providing users with 10 hours of talk time.
MacBooks work with locks
Kensington on Friday issued a correction notice regarding a story posted earlier on MacNN, clarifying that its laptop locks are "100% compatible" with the new MacBooks introduced in October. Kensington clarifies that Apple has constructed the new laptops' lock port to the former company's specifications, which are available to computer manufacturers. In addition to confirmation of compatibility, Kensington backs up the claim by saying it has thoroughly tested the two products in conjunction.
Kensington WUSB Dock
Kensington today unveiled what it believes is the first genuinely universal Wireless USB dock. The simply-titled Wireless USB Docking Station connects to any computer that supports Wireless USB, whether internally or through an adapter, and provides enough connections to serve as a full stand-in for a wired dock without the extra cables; the device can output a DVI video signal up to the 1680x1050 of most 20-inch displays and has five USB ports as well as a stereo minijack for external speakers.
Kensington supports Mac
Kensington on Tuesday unveiled an update to its sd200v Notebook Docking Station with Video, announcing a new beta software which supports the various MacBook computers. The sd200v allows users to extend the machine's capabilities by offering an external VGA display connection, keyboard, mouse, or up to five USB device connections through a single USB port. The sd200v is available from Kensington for $140, while the updated beta driver is located on the company's website.
Kensignton powers up iPods
Kensington on Monday unveiled a Battery Pack and Charger for iPhone and iPod, along with a Mini version. The portable battery packs plug into the Apple devices' dock connectors and power and recharge them, and are themselves rechargeable. The lithium-ion polymer battery packs feature a USB connector that allows them to be charged via either the AC adapter or a PC, whether or not they are also plugged into an Apple device, charging it as well.
Kensington Ci70 with USB
Kensington has provided a spin on the routine for keyboards today by launching its Ci70 Keyboard with USB Ports. In a still-rare break from most keyboard designs, the updated Ci70 adds two full USB ports for peripherals but places them at the top of the keyboard rather than at the back or sides, making it easier to load in a flash drive or some portable media players. A third mini USB port with cable also lets users with digital cameras quickly hook up to the computer without finding the appropriate cable or leaving clutter on the desk.
Kensington USB Display
Kensington on Tuesday brought the first devices for the Mac to support a display connection over USB. A new version of the sd200v Notebook Docking Station borrows technology from DisplayLink that allows Mac OS X systems to connect not just ordinary peripherals but also video output across a single USB connection: DVI and VGA displays, audio, and as many as five USB add-ons attach through a single cable. The technology is fast enough to drive resolutions up to 1440x1024, even with movies and other taxing video connections, Kingston says. The station may be ideal for turning the MacBook Air into a full desktop replacement and allows the Mac mini to use more than one monitor at the same time, according to the company.
