Mamiya Digital Imaging and Leaf Imaging, makers of medium-photography cameras, have merged. The new company, Mamiya Leaf, will combine their resources to develop new products, CNET reported. Before this, both companies produced devices controlled by Phase One digital backs.
Adobe has posted the final editions of the Lightroom 3.5 and Camera Raw 6.5 updates. In both circumstances the software adds support for over 20 cameras. Consumer-level additions include the Fuji FinePix F600EXR, Nikon Coolpix P7100, Pentax Q, and Ricoh GXR Mount A12, as well as Olympus' E-P3, E-PL3 and E-PM1, Panasonic's DMC-FZ150, DMC-G3 and DMC-GF3, and Sony's NEX-C3, NEX-5N, SLT-A35, SLT-A65 and SLT-A77.
Medium-format camera maker Leaf has released Leaf Capture 11.5, an update of its workflow tool for digital cameras. The software handles capture, processing and editing, as well as necessary file management. Version 11.5 includes major upgrades of the firmware for Aptus II camera backs, amongst which is a new interface with options like favorite settings and an outdoor mode, which has better visibility.
Phase One has released a new version of Capture One, 5.2. The software handles a professional photography workflow, including the import of RAW files as well as basic editing tasks, for example color, sharpness and contrast. A Pro version adds more advanced options, such as tethered shooting, spot removal and skin tone enhancement. The v5.2 upgrade brings new profiles for several Nikon DSLRs: the D3s, D3x, D3, D2x, D700, D300, D300s and D90.
Camera maker Hasselblad has announced Phocus 2.5, a future update to the company's photo editing tool. The program handles tasks like white balance, shadow/highlight adjustment and lens correction, for instance by removing moiré patterns and image distortion. The v2.5 update primarily adds RAW support for over 150 non-Hasselblad cameras, from companies such as Canon, Nikon, Leica, Sony, Fuji and Olympus.
Leaf has expanded its Aptus-II line of medium- and large-format camera backs with the 10R. The device integrates a 56-megapixel sensor measuring 56x36 mm and capable of capturing the full width of medium-format areas in either landscape or portrait orientation.
Leaf has introduced a new medium-format camera back to the Aptus-II line, the Aptus-II 8. The camera back features a 40-megapixel resolution (7360x5562 pixels) and has a capture rate of under 0.8 seconds per frame, making it capable of a sustainable burst of more than 60 full resolution images per minute. The 1.73x1.3in (44x33mm) CCD has a 12 f–stop dynamic range and an 80-800 ISO sensitivity range. The Aptus-II series are the only medium format camera backs to use touchscreens, in this case a high contrast, 2.36x2.76in LCD.
Phase One today upgraded its core medium-format camera body in launching the 645DF. The upgrade to the original 645 incorporates both a traditional leaf shutter as well as a focal plane shutter, the combination of which helps give it unusually flexible flash sync and exposure options. The camera has one of the fastest flash syncs available and can trigger the light at up to a 1/1,600 second shutter speed, and exposure times can be as little as 1/4,000 of a second or as much as a full hour.
Maker of medium format cameras, digital backs and lenses, Phase One, along with Leaf Photography, which manufactures medium-format digital camera backs, on Thursday announced they have collaborated to create a new company called Leaf Imaging that has purchased assets of the Leaf camera business. This includes the Leaf product name, engineering design and production tools.
Digital studio-grade photo camera maker Mamiya on Tuesday announced the upcoming release of its DL33 medium format camera. Reflecting its namesake and role, it has a 33-megapixel sensor sized at 36x48mm, or about twice the size of conventional full-frame DSLR cameras, with each pixel sized at 7.2 microns. The camera also has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, which Mamiya claims is the largest in the industry, and offers a high contrast for outdoor shooting.
Leaf made its bid to regain the performance lead in medium format cameras on Thursday by introducing the AFi 10. At 56 megapixels, the multi-piece camera system has a higher resolution than the previous champion, the Hasselblad H3DII-50, and produces images nearly 70 percent larger than the 33-megapixel AFi 7. The new imager is also labeled a True Wide-frame Sensor and maintains the same resolution across the entire photo area, guaranteeing a sharper image for subjects at the edge of the frame. Photographers can also rotate the sensor inside the AFi 10 to compose different-ratio shots without having to tilt the whole camera.
