LogMeIn drops free accounts, forces users into paid tiers

Some accounts get brief reprieve

Remote access service LogMeIn is shutting down access to free accounts, reports note. The company is informing subscribers that they have seven days after their next login to upgrade or stop using the service. Owners of LogMeIn Ignition for iOS and Android are being promised "significant" discounts, however -- and for the time being, LogMeIn Central, the free editions of Cubby and join.me are unaffected.

LogMeIn has announced that it has partnered with HTC to bring remote support services to the handset maker's Android devices. Upcoming models are said to come preloaded with LogMeIn Rescue, enabling HTC's support staff to diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems.

LogMeIn updates software with Lion support

Manual update check may be required

Developer LogMeIn is currently pushing out critical software updates, according to the company's blog. Users of LogMeIn Free or Pro must download the updates in order to ensure compatibility with machines running OS X Lion, which is expected to ship sometime next week. While automatic updates should be "turned on shortly," LogMeIn says, it may be necessary to go to the About tab in each Mac program and click on Check for Updates.

LogMeIn Ignition app updates with file access

Allows saving for local viewing, editing

LogMeIn has releases a critical update of Ignition, its iOS app. The software provides remote access to a Mac or Windows PC with multi-touch controls substituting for mouse or keyboard input. The v2.0.264 update introduces file management, allowing people to not only browse files and folders on a system but copy or move them to an iOS device.
