Medium format camera makers Mamiya, Leaf merge

Mamiya Digital Imaging and Leaf Imaging, makers of medium-photography cameras, have merged. The new company, Mamiya Leaf, will combine their resources to develop new products, CNET reported. Before this, both companies produced devices controlled by Phase One digital backs.

Medium-format camera maker Leaf has released Leaf Capture 11.5, an update of its workflow tool for digital cameras. The software handles capture, processing and editing, as well as necessary file management. Version 11.5 includes major upgrades of the firmware for Aptus II camera backs, amongst which is a new interface with options like favorite settings and an outdoor mode, which has better visibility.

Expands Leica, Leaf, Mamiya support

Phase One has released a new version of Capture One, 5.2. The software handles a professional photography workflow, including the import of RAW files as well as basic editing tasks, for example color, sharpness and contrast. A Pro version adds more advanced options, such as tethered shooting, spot removal and skin tone enhancement. The v5.2 upgrade brings new profiles for several Nikon DSLRs: the D3s, D3x, D3, D2x, D700, D300, D300s and D90.

Phase One intros 645DF medium-format

Phase One today upgraded its core medium-format camera body in launching the 645DF. The upgrade to the original 645 incorporates both a traditional leaf shutter as well as a focal plane shutter, the combination of which helps give it unusually flexible flash sync and exposure options. The camera has one of the fastest flash syncs available and can trigger the light at up to a 1/1,600 second shutter speed, and exposure times can be as little as 1/4,000 of a second or as much as a full hour.

Mamiya 33MP studio camera

Digital studio-grade photo camera maker Mamiya on Tuesday announced the upcoming release of its DL33 medium format camera. Reflecting its namesake and role, it has a 33-megapixel sensor sized at 36x48mm, or about twice the size of conventional full-frame DSLR cameras, with each pixel sized at 7.2 microns. The camera also has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, which Mamiya claims is the largest in the industry, and offers a high contrast for outdoor shooting.

Mamiya ZDb digital back

In advance of this month's Photokina 2008 expo, camera maker Mamiya has announced a new digital back for medium-format cameras. The ZDb is a revision of the company's current digital back (pictured), and like its sibling, will sport a 22-megapixel resolution. The key difference will be a new buffer with twice the memory, able to shoot up to 22 full-quality RAW files before offloading. The current back is only capable of 10 shots.
