Maylong, Coby have to slash prices to fight Amazon
Tablet makers that have focused most of their time producing cheap alternatives to the iPad are themselves being squeezed by the Amazon Kindle Fire, the retail field acknowledged early Tuesday. Maylong, at times notorious for directly copying Apple, has pushed down the price of its Android 2.2-based M-250 tablet to just $97, Digitimes said. Coby's Kyros tablet has also had to drop to $148.

Augen goes down as cheap Android tablets fail
One of the first attempts at seizing on the iPad's popularity has quietly fizzled out as Augen appears to have shut down. The company's US page has been down for a month, and both e-mail as well as warranty returns appear to have gone unanswered. Augen had triggered worry early on when it planned a set of e-readers that would have shipped in April but missed their release without a correction from the company.

Maylong M-150 at Walgreens for 100 price
Walgreens has quietly become one of the few chains selling a readily available Android tablet through a posting discovered by Chris and other Electronista readers. The Maylong M-150 would be an extreme budget entry at just $100 and would be a Chinese clone exploiting the popularity of the iPad up to and including a render that appears to simply be a modified iPad image. Its custom UI is based heavily on Apple's, including the app shelf at the bottom.
