Micromax sets February date for Canvas HD launch in India

First quad-core Android phablet for Micromax

Micromax has unveiled its Android Jelly Bean-powered A116 Canvas HD smartphone for India and other surrounding emerging markets. The Canvas HD is Micromax's first phablet to use a quad-core processor, the MediaTek MT6589 running at 1.2GHz, supported by 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, with an option to expand its capacity via a 32GB MicroSD card.

ABI: iPads have passed netbooks, Android phones rule Asia

Study has Apple ahead in tablets, back in Asa

Dueling ABI studies marked two milestones for mobile technology. Getting details on netbook shipments, it found that mobile tablets had passed netbooks for the first time with about 13.6 million shipping versus 7.3 million of the primarily Windows-based netbooks. Apple alone would have outsold the netbook class with 9.25 million iPads, or 68 percent of tablets by itself.

Peek dips into cellphones in India with Genius Cloud

Brings smartphone features to basic handset

Peek, a provider of SaaS services that give internet-only wireless devices smartphone-like capabilities, is expanding to the cellphone market. Peek has partnered with Micromax, India's largest domestic mobile handset manufacturer, to offer cloud-based apps on that company's Q80 phone. Peek's "Genius Cloud" software will give the Q80 instant messaging, video chat, social networking, web browsing, and push e-mail.
