Aqua Data Studio 7.5
AquaFold has posted the v7.5 update to its database administration tool, Aqua Data Studio. The software supports Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server, among other platforms. The latest version offers a new file search tool that searches the complete contents of files, and two added editors for Java and JavaScript. Also present are additional charts, enhanced performance, and more languages to choose from. Performance improvements emphasize a 40 percent reduction in memory consumption when retrieving sizable text and grid results.

Entrance 1.3 ($50) is a browser for MySQL database that uses data to draw histograms, line charts and more. Entrance also supports an new data mining feature dubbed "data painting" and an explore tree with drag and drop support for tables, queries and scripts. The SQL script editor also features a built-in error detection feature and lets users edit and run SQL scripts against their data. MvixUSA intros NAS/server
MvixUSA is bringing a versatile Network Attached Storage device to the market, the MvixBOX or WDN-2000, the company announced on Tuesday. The two-bay NAS doubles as a media server, as it is capable of torrent sharing in addition to dynamic website hosting and data back-up capabilities. While the product ships without any included hard-drives, it is capable of housing two 1.5TB SATA HDDs. The MvixBOX does ship pre-configured with Apache, MySQL, SQlife and PHP web servers as well as dynamic DNS functionality. For network access, a gigabit Ethernet connection is present.

Aqua Data Studio 7.0
AquaFold has released Aqua Data Studio 7.0, updating the database administration tool (for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and others) with a new Entity Relationship (ER) Modeler. The Modeler allows users to create, save and modify diagrams, and extract diagrams from databases. The contents of ER diagrams, once edited or created, are scriptable and can be converted into schema objects, allowing both forward and reverse engineering of database structures.

Vvidget 10.5.4 released
VVI has released a new version of Vvidget, its charting and graphing software. Features in the program include a quadratic lab for students, and considerable extensibility, including options for monitoring information such as CPU use, web data, or the voltage of lab equipment. More cosmetic features of Vvidget including rotating 3D charts, and the ability to truncate curves or have them extend beyond a graph's frame.

Sun Acquires MySQL
Potentially creating a major ripple effect in software, Sun today said it would acquire MySQL in a deal worth roughly $1 billion. The buyout gives Sun control over the most significant open-source database in the world but will also give MySQL distribution deals with Dell, IBM, and Intel that it would never have had otherwise, according to the two merging companies. Although the maneuver is expected to help Sun's preferred Linux and OpenSolaris systems integrate the database, the acquisition is also reportedly aimed at improving development of MySQL for Mac OS X and Windows.
