Midi arpeggiator StepPolyArp updated to version 2.3
StepPolyArp, a MIDI arpeggiator app for iPad, has received an update, bringing the latest version to 2.3. Allowing users to control MIDI instruments, a variety of sequencers and other virtual instruments, StepPolyArp can automatically generate melodic patterns from notes or chords played in real time. The update features 64-bit support, as well as the addition of start/stop following mode from its external sequencer. Available for iPads running iOS 5.1.1 or later, StepPolyArp is priced at $12.

IRIScan Mouse provides easy access to powerful OCR processing
OCR developer IRIS has announced the availability of the IRIScan Mouse, an all-in-one mouse scanner with OCR technology. The USB 2.0 device, when coupled with the software, seamlessly stitches the image together in real time. The stitched image is then evaluated, and any discovered text is converted into editable documents for use with standard word-processing applications.
Turns graphics into searchable PDFs
ExactCode, makers of the ExactScan Pro OCR program for Mac, have updated its tools for turning graphic files and PDFs in to searchable PDFs using OCR, OCRKit. The program comes in two versions: one for Mac and a mobile version. It uses the same engine as ExactScan to improve OCR recognition and accuracy in two dozen different languages, allowing users to photograph or import documents and output searchable, copy-pasteable text for e-mail, word processing and other functions.
Utility supports drag-and-drop conversion
ExactCODE has released OCRKit, a utility that converts images into searchable PDF files. The software uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to extract text from graphics files in formats such as PDF, TIFF, JPEG, BMP, and PNM, among others. Users can convert items by dragging files directly onto the OCRKit application icon.
Prizmo 1.1 update adds OCR technology
Creaceed has introduced the latest version of its Mac scanning software for users with digital cameras, Prizmo 1.1. The update features the integration of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, developed by ExperExchange Inc. The added OCR technology supports up to 10 different languages including English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish. In order to use the new function simply select part of a photograph, choose the text language, then just set the binarization level and decide on which file type for saving the OCR results.
ExactScan 2 Pro ships
ExactCODE GmbH has released ExactScan 2 Pro, adding a professional version of its ExactScan 2 software for scanning or converting documents to PDF files. ExactScan's professional version adds optical character recognition (OCR) and barcode scanning, and can produce searchable PDF files, in addition to standard PDF and Tiff files. The pro version can also handle multi-page PDFs. The latest version of both pro and standard ExactScan, v2.7, can autoscan on paper placement, automatically crops on flatbed source and realigns paper sizes on source changes.
IRIScan USB OCR scanner
I.R.I.S. Group has announced the release of the IRIScan 2, a portable full document scanner. The compact, light sheet-fed scanner is USB-powered and fits any laptop suitcase, according to the company. Available in both Express and Executive versions, the IRIScan 2 comes with an extended suite of applications to manage paper documents, including Readiris Pro 11 PC and/or Mac, the latest versions of IRISí OCR software. The software will recognize documents text information and generate a PDF or an editable Office document. The scanner is designed to scan from small-sized paper documents (e.g. business cards) up to letter size documents at resolutions of up to 1200 dpi (color, grayscale or black/white). The scanner has two useful buttons, one allowing you to scan directly into Readiris, the other to launch Cardiris when you scan a business card.
