NVIDIA settles OPTi dispute with $2m licensing payout

Graphics company accused of defying court order

OPTi has announced that it has accepted a settlement agreement from NVIDIA, which will resolve a dispute over royalty payments for "pre-snoop" memory technology. NVIDIA will provide a lump sum payout of $2 million to secure a "fully paid-up license" to the patented technology.

OPTi tries to eke more cash from GPU maker

Patent holder OPTi this afternoon launched arbitration against NVIDIA in an attempt to garner more royalty payments. It claims that the GeForce creator is breaching a licensing deal struck in 2006 for "pre-snoop" memory technology by declining to pay five quarterly payments worth $3.75 million. It's also allegedly continuing to use the predictive technique and could owe as many 12 total payments.
