Microsoft issues security fix for Mac Office 2011

Only security issues addressed, affects all Mac Office 2011 editions

On Tuesday, Microsoft issued a new security patch for all versions of its Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 edition, including academic, Standard and Home & Business editions and all the main applications contained therein. The update "fixes critical issues and also helps to improve security. It includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code." The fix is intended for Intel Macs running OS X 10.5.8 or later.

Microsoft fixes licensing bug in Office for Mac 2011

Minor update solves issue with false licensing alert

Microsoft on Monday released a further update specifically for Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 that resolves a false licensing alarm bug. Specifically, Office 2011 applications would report a problem with licensing even though the applications would continue to run unaffected by the warning. The new problem was apparently introduced in the previous fix, which also addressed various bugs with Exchange calendar servers, hyperlinks with hastags and other issues.

Microsoft updates Office for Mac for Office 365 operability

Office for Mac 14.3 available as standalone or as subscription

Following the release of Office 2013 earlier today, Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. In addition to resolving several outstanding bugs in the application, Office for Mac 2011 is now also available on a subscription basis in Microsoft's Office 365 offering. While Office for Mac 2011 still works with 10.5.8 or later, Office 365 Home Premium now requires OS X 10.6 or greater. The hard-drive based Office copy must be upgraded to 14.2.3 before application of the 14.3 patch.

MS to offer Mac users software update for Office for Mac 2011

In the aftermath of Microsoft's big Office 15 announcement this week it has emerged that there will be no new version of Office for Mac 2013 edition. The Next Web has received confirmation from Microsoft that instead, users of Office for Mac 2011 can expect a software update around the same time that the new version of Office 2013 launches. The update will bring tighter integration with SkyDrive and Office 365 enabling Mac users to access their documents from the cloud.

MS issues SP2 Office for Mac 2011, gets more Lion-friendly

Full-screen support, document connection, more

Microsoft has updated Office for Mac 2011 to version 14.2.0 (SP2), a significant update with a number of changes and improvements, among them support for Lion's full-screen mode in PowerPoint, and the addition of a drag-and-drop feature in Document Connection for Lion. The update fixes numerous small issues, introduces a new sync model for Exchange e-mail, and improves the robustness and rebuild utility of the e-mail database.

Version 5.1 adds full Snow Leopard support, more

Recosoft has launched PDF2Office 5.1, updating it PDF translation software which focuses on Microsoft Office compatibility. PDF2Office recovers the data stored in PDF documents for use in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It recovers page breaks, graphics, annotations and formatting. PDF2Office Services also support Pages, Keynote and TextEdit.

Mac Office expected to ship in late October

Microsoft on Friday released its long awaited Office for Mac 2011 to manufacturing, keeping in line with its expected release date before the holiday shopping season--some time in late October. The company, which has been working on the next-generation Office suite for the Mac for nearly two and a half years, said that the newest version of Office Mac users will be its "best release yet," bringing new features such as a new template gallery, reintroduced Visual Basic support, a new Outlook for Mac application, connections with online Microsoft services, and a new Ribbon interface as well as Sparklines and photo editing.

PivotTable improvements teased alongside video

The Microsoft Office for Mac team has released a new video highlighting Sparklines and photo editing in the forthcoming release. Office for Mac 2011 is due in October and the Office for Mac Blog is attempting to wet customer's appetites with previews of new features. Sparklines, which debuted in Excel 2010 for Windows, arrive on the Mac side in Excel 2011 for Mac. The feature provides numerical graphs that quickly show changes in data over time. They can be generated in cells near corresponding raw data to give fast visual illustrations for numeric data.
