Apple takes UK tech retail veteran as Senior VP
Apple chose early Tuesday to reveal that it had persuaded the CEO of UK retailer Dixons, John Browett, to become its Senior VP for retail. The shift will fill the vacuum left since June, when Ron Johnson left to become the CEO of JC Penney. Apple CEO Tim Cook described the decision to hire the overseer of chains such as Currys and PC World as a reaction to having met Browett and his reputed focus on the customer.

Best Buy UK makes quick exit
Best Buy UK made an abrupt exit on Sunday. The British division, a collaboration with Carphone Warehouse, is now expected to formally announce a shutdown within the next few days. Ongoing losses as well as multiple executive departures have been cited as the causes.

Motorola confirms Xoom for UK due next week
Motorola has confirmed to Engadget that its Xoom tablet will begin shipping in the UK next week. Despite this, however, prices or an exact date haven't been revealed. The Android 3.0 tablet will arrive at electronics retailers Carphone Warehouse, Currys, Dixons, and PC World.

Advent Vega tablet sells out in hours on Friday
The 10-inch Advent Vega Android tablet that uses NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform has been sold out within a few hours of being posted up for sale online. Both PC World and Currys webstores carried the new device for $400. PC World maintained that the sellout was due to unprecedented demand, though it's unclear just how many units were up for sale.

Toshiba Folio 100 pulled from UK sales after bugs
Toshiba's entry into Android tablets hit a major setback today as UK retailers have stopped sales of the Folio 100. A set of leaks of company memos from Dixons chain stores Currys and PC World have shown that both are freezing sales after a "high return rate" for multiple issues. Shops have pulled it off their websites and deliberately boosted the price to £999 ($1,613) to deter customers from asking about a sale.

Samsung Galaxy Tab priced well over iPad in UK
Samsung's Galaxy Tab today received official UK pricing from retailers that puts it well above the iPad. Dixons, PC World and other stores should carry the low-end seven-inch tablet for £600 with tax, or $950. The cost comes despite the larger Apple tablet costing £529 ($838) for a model with the same 3G and 16GB of storage.
