Google posts Native Client SDK for Linux, Mac, PC
Google finished the week by posting a initial SDK for its long promised Native Client. The kit will let developers put native C and C++ apps into a Chrome browser feature that supports many of the features of stand-alone apps, including 3D, multi-core processor support and direct memory access. Unlike earlier versions of Microsoft's ActiveX, however, all apps are sandboxed and cross-checked to prevent malicious code from using the native support to attack the main OS.
Palm webOS update adds official PDK support
HP's new mobile group Palm has started pushing out webOS 1.4.5 to phones on Sprint in the US and SFR in France. Both the Pre and Pixi now officially support the public, finished version of the PDK (Plug-in Development Kit, which allows fully native code in webOS' namesake web apps. For the Pixi and Pixi Plus, the update represents the first time it can support the 3D gaming existing on the Pre in a rougher form since January.
Palm PDK allows true native apps in webOS
Palm today acted on promises from its CES keynote and launched a public beta version of the Plug-in Development Kit, or PDK. The previously limited release lets developers write webOS apps that include C or C++ code embedded inside, giving them the hardware access and speed to create 3D games. Its design is simple enough that Palm touts it as a quick way to port games made for the iPhone or other rival platforms.
