Parrot's latest has CarPlay integration, OBDII, more
France-based Parrot's latest unveiling at this year's Consumer Electronics Show was the RNB6 double-DIN automotive head unit. The new RNB6 supports both Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto. The seven-inch capacitive touchscreen unit also offers many other features to prospective buyers, such as an included dashcam, navigation, and Bluetooth 4.0.
Bluetooth 4.0, NFC-enabled speakers offer 360-degree sound coverage, compact size
Accessory maker Rapoo announced the US release of two of its wireless speakers today, bringing the revamped style of the A500 and A300 models to a new audience. Both of the Bluetooth 4.0 speakers feature NFC pairing, a dual-mode that enables an auxiliary connection, and 360-degree sound coverage. Each speaker has its own construction features, as the A500 contains speakers made from bio-fiber materials, while the A300 has an aluminum alloy exterior.
Upcoming Parrot Skycontroller will connect with VR headsets
Parrot has unveiled its latest remote-controlled drone, one which can take advantage of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. The Bebop Drone follows on from the earlier AR.Drone releases by being a compact quadricopter with a camera, except this time the company is offering accessories that can boost the range and the usability of the flying machine.
Android-based car stereos add multitouch
Parrot has added three more Android-based car stereo systems to go alongside the Asteroid, including some with touch capabilities. The Asteroid Smart replaces an existing head unit, while the Tablet and the Mini are both designed to work in tandem with other car stereos, using the amplifier and speakers already installed in the vehicle.
Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 coming to Brookstone in May
Parrot's AR.Drone 2.0 remote-controlled quadricopter introduced at CES is now available for pre-order at Brookstone. While the official ship date is in May, a limited number of units should arrive on April 9. Compared to its predecessor, the new AR.Drone has the ability to capture 720p videos and stills from its integrated camera.
Parrot intros two audio devices at CES
Parrot has used CES as a launchpad for two new products sporting the creative imprint of French designer Philppe Stark. The ZIK Parrot by Starck is a Bluetooth headset that depends on a touch panel for control. The Zikmu SOLO Parrot by Starck is a monobloc wireless stereo speaker with a docking station for an iPhone or iPod.
Parrot AR Drone 2 made official prematurely
Parrot's plans for CES were unintentionally made official after an early posting [reg. required] of the official release on DIYDrones. AR Drone 2.0 builds on the original by adding 720p video capture to the quadricopter. Owners can not only capture video but pre-program the drone to fly a linear path for a set duration while it records, opening the door to creative movie shots.
Asteroid runs Android, is iPhone/iPod compatible
Parrot, which started off with cellphone peripherals, including Bluetooth headsets, has now made its Asteroid in-car head unit official. First seen at CES early this year, the head unit is the only one in the industry to run on Android. It sports a 3.2-inch screen and ships with a GPS dongle, while a mobile broadband USB port will let users connect their own for Internet connection.
Griffin Helo TC chopper uses iOS remote control
Griffin has just introduced a product that will end the monopoly enjoyed by Parrot and its AR.Drone quadrocopter. Like the original product, the Helo TC helicopter can be flown by a free app for iPhones, iPads or iPod touch devices. The form factor of the two crafts is slightly different, but either is an airborne toy.
Surface becomes world's largest remote control
The Microsoft Surface has had a special application written by an enthusiast so that it can act as a remote control for Parrot’s AR. Drone. The AR. Drone model quadricopter was developed in the first instance for remote control by Apple’s iPod touch, iPhone or iPad. In this instance, the Microsoft’s Surface has taken on the mantle as the world’s largest touchscreen remote control as the video embedded below demonstrates.
Mech-less Parrot Asteroid has Android onboard
Parrot, known for its Bluetooth and audio accessories for vehicles, has brought a new Asteroid head unit to CES. The CD drive-less radio uses a customized version of Google's Android OS and three USB ports in the rear that will allow users to plug in their own USB thumb drives full of music. One of them is reserved for a USB 3G dongle, whose data connection can be used to download new apps approved for use by the device and in cars.
Parrot AR.Drone goes for pre-sale on Brookstone
Parrot's AR.Drone remote controlled quadricopter has now gone on pre-sale through a special deal Brookstone. The toy is unique in that it needs to be controlled using the Wi-Fi connection of an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad. It also has two integrated video cameras for streaming live images to the screen of the Apple device.
Parrot announces AR.Drone coming to US in fall
Bluetooth device specialist Parrot at the E3 show is showing off its AR.Drone quadricopter that can be piloted with a connected iPod touch, iPhone or iPad. The quadricopter is equipped with two cameras, with the front-facing unit broadcasting what the quadricopter sees onto the screen of the Apple device controlling it. The AR.Drone connects using its own Wi-Fi network to the Apple device, and users need to download the AR.FreeFlight app to control it.
Alpine outs single-DIN head unit with Bluetooth
At a booth tour of Alpine’s new products at CES, we learned the company has released its first single-DIN car audio receiver with built-in Bluetooth support, the CDE-103BT. The functionality is powered by Parrot and users had to previously rely on a separate $180 accessory to add Bluetooth support to their Alpine head units. A dedicated ‘Phone’ button on the receiver’s faceplate lets users connect to their compatible phones.
Parrot iPhone Car Stereo
Parrot today previewed the Frankfurt Auto Show by launching the RKi8400. A rare in-dash car stereo meant specifically for the iPhone, the system lets users browse the Apple smartphone's music by album cover on an LCD and automatically invokes hands-free mode when a call comes in. Stereo Bluetooth is onboard as well and provides hands-free calling to any cellphone in addition to music playback for any device that recognizes A2DP, including iPhones and second-generation iPod touch models with 3.0 firmware.
Parrot iPod speakers
Parrot on Wednesday announced it will soon release its Zikmu wireless speakers for iPods and iPhones, which it has developed in conjunction with designer Philippe Starck. One of the 2.5-foot high freestanding columns has an iPod dock that will charge compatible Apple devices, including the original and iPhone 3G, and use it as the source for audio files. This main tower then sends the audio files to its near twin over Bluetooth, which is also used to play tracks from other compatible and paired cellphones or personal media players. A Wi-Fi connection allows the columns to play music from nearby computers connected to a wireless data network.
T-Mobile Ships cameo
T-Mobile today started shipping the cameo digital photo frame. The Parrot-made viewer is comparatively unique in carrying its own SIM card and cellular subscription to let the owner update the current image through either an MMS message or e-mail. Users can also explicitly allow other users (including non-T-Mobile subscribers) to update the frame automatically rather than require permission.
Parrot designer frame
Parrot on Tuesday announced the latest addition to its range of digital photo frames with one designed by French artist Andrée Putman. The near six-inch screen is framed with contrasting black and white tones with subtle transparency. Transferring photos, in typical Parrot fashion, can be done wirelessly thanks to the frame's integrated Bluetooth connectivity. The frame also kicks off the wireless mobile telephony device maker's Designer Collection of products.
