Cox details first gigabit Internet service locations, speed increases

Market-wide deployment of Cox gigabit service expected by end of 2016

Cox Communications has detailed where it plans to roll out its residential gigabit Internet service. Following an earlier announcement stating it would be launching the high-speed service this year, Cox has revealed it will start construction projects in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Omaha, with both new and existing neighborhoods in the regions being prepared to receive the improved connections.

HP Omni27 and HPE Phoenix mark CES presence

HP hoped to cut into the territory of Apple's iMac with CES introductions by launching its first 27-inch all-in-one desktop. The Omni27 forgoes touch but is the first without touch to use HP's Magic Canvas, a widescreen-optimized space for apps, movies, and photos. Beats Audio and direct HDMI video input turn it into a media system both on its own and for other devices.

Phoenix intros Bluetooth-based notebook security

Phoenix Technologies on Wednesday announced users can now download its Phoenix Freeze security solution for notebooks and netbooks, which uses Bluetooth technology to gauge the proximity of a user to a portable computer. Freeze pairs a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone with the notebook and locks the computer when the phone reaches a certain distance to prevent anyone else from accessing its files. When users come back into a pre-set range, the notebook will unlock again.

FileMaker today announced the start of registration for the 2008 FileMaker Developer Conference, which takes placefrom July 13th to the 17th at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. FileMaker is offering a $200 discount to registrants who act before May 16th, while all attendees will be given a complimentary copy of FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced. Registration fees for the conference start at $1200 for the basic package, and $2000 for the Passport tier pass.
