Administrators refer Phones 4U customers to credit card companies
Customers of UK retailer Phones 4U may not receive a refund for their pre-ordered iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. PWC, the administrators of the failed retail chain, has effectively reversed an earlier decision to allow for refunds to proceed, with affected customers now extremely unlikely to receive a refund directly from the company at all.
Approximately 900 jobs to be saved by store sale
More stores from failed British mobile phone retailer Phones 4U are being scooped up for use by a second carrier, with shops to be rebranded and reopened in a short space of time. EE, operator of Orange and T-Mobile in the country, has signed a deal with administrators to acquire 58 of the stores from the company, pending court approval, and in the process attempt to keep on 359 affected employees at the locations.
Rebranding of 140 Phones 4U stores to Vodafone expected in coming weeks
European carrier Vodafone is going to attempt to help some of the employees affected by UK retailer Phones 4U's administration proceedings. The mobile phone network will step in and acquire 140 of the chain's stores across the country, and in the process take on approximately 900 of the affected 5,596 staff at the saved locations.
Puts jobs of 5,596 people at risk
UK retailer Phones 4U has gone into administration -- the UK equivalent of bankruptcy protection -- following a decision by network operator EE not to renew a contract ending in September 2015. The company now lacks any network partners, as earlier this month Vodafone said it would skip extending its own contract. All of Phones 4U's 550 stores are shut today, and will only reopen if and when administrators decide business can resume. The situation could endanger the jobs of some 5,596 workers.
Buying Samsung phablet nets you Samsung tablet
UK retailer Phones 4U is now offering customers a free Samsung tablet along with the purchase of the company's newest Galaxy Note device. Customers buying the Galaxy Note 3 on a two-year contract will also receive Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 for free. The promotion runs through November 21.
Phones 4u promotion gives away Galaxy Gear with Note 3
UK Samsung fans can get their hands on Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch for free if they are willing to pick up the Galaxy Note 3 as well. Phones 4u has announced a weeklong promotion, beginning today, in which the retailer will give away the ¬£299 Galaxy Gear to customers buying the Note 3 on contract. The promotion requires that customers pick up the devices in physical stores.
HTC One in red appears at UK phone retailer, on sale mid-July
A red version of the HTC One will be going on sale in the United Kingdom. Previously thought to be offered as a "limited edition" device, British retailer Phones 4U gained the rights to sell the smartphone in the country, with pre-orders starting at £33 ($51) per month ahead of a release in mid-July. Red versions of the HTC One is likely to start appearing on carriers in other parts of the world in the coming months.
Lumia 610 arrives at UK retailers and carriers, priced at £15 per month
Nokia launched the Lumia 610 smartphone in the UK on Wednesday. As the company's entry-level Windows Phone-powered device, it has just 256MB of RAM and is relegated to Windows Phone 7.5. Major UK carriers and retailers including Vodafone, Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Three, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u will sell the phone starting at just £15 (about $23) per month on a contract, with no money down.
Nokia Lumia 900 now at Rogers, dated for the UK
Nokia's Lumia 900 has now arrived in Canada in LTE guise, with Rogers offering the Windows Phone for $100 on a three-year voice and data contract. At the same time, Pocket-Lint reported that the HSPA+ version of the handset will be available in the UK on April 27. Electronics retailers Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse will stock the handset at that time, with the former of the two offering the white version as a UK exclusive.
WP7 handsets launching at all major UK carriers
Microsoft on Wednesday assured UK phone buyers that all major providers will carry Windows Phone 7-powered devices at launch of the mobile OS. Orange, O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile and 3 will all have one or more models. UK phone retailers The Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u will also carry the devices.
Sony Ericsson fixes issues of Aino, Satio phones
Sony Ericsson announced it has resolved the issues that plagued its Aino Satio smartphones, addressing the former's freezing touchscreen and the latter's software glitch. The issues led UK retailers to stop selling the devices, and at least one retailer will bring back sales after the issue is addressed. The firmware update will also improve the performance of the phones and stabilize their operation.
Phones 4u to support multiple carriers
UK retailer Phones 4u has announced a deal to begin selling the iPhone, both online and through its stores. Devices will be paired either with the original UK iPhone carrier, O2, or else Orange, which is slated to begin support later this year. Phones 4u has not mentioned a particular timeline for starting sales, or what special discounts it might offer, if any.
