Playbook OS Version 2.1.0 downloadable for developers
Research in Motion (RIM) has released a PlayBook beta for developers. Version 2.1.0 is available to download now. While the BB10 operating system is expected for the PlayBook, RIM promises compatibility for applications developed for the new OS beta release will function in BB10. Improvements have been made in the Android runtime, the BlackBerry Payment SDK has been made available, and portrait mode support has been added to the email, contacts, and calendar apps. Full device encryption is now possible, and HTML5 support has been added. A developer account is required to download the beta software.
