Samsung Galaxy S II beats HTC Sensation in tests

HTC's just-unveiled Sensation has already been pitted against the Galaxy S II in early, pre-release benchmarks that might suggest trouble for the newer phone. A Smartbench test from TomPDA has the Sensation, under its Pyramid codename, scoring at most 1,898 under the productivity tests and 1,642 for graphics. The Galaxy S II's own Samsung-made Exynos chip brings it to respective scores of 3,732 and 2,431.

ROM files for HTC's upcoming Sensation handset, previously referred to as the Pyramid, have reportedly leaked, just two days after the device's formal unveiling at a special event in London. The ROM is said to be taken from a model headed for Asian markets, though it includes the Sense 3.0 overlay that is expected to be featured in all regions.

HTC Sensation made official, due for T-Mobile

HTC as expected used its London event on Tuesday to unveil a new flagship Android phone, the Sensation. It packs the same dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor as the Evo 3D we tried last month as well as the 4.3-inch, 540x960 display, but with a more conventional design. HTC is using a regular 2D display and packs a single eight-megapixel, 1080p-capable camera on the back instead of the two five-megapixel cameras used to make 3D movies on the Sprint-specific phone.

The HTC Sensation, previously known as the Pyramid, has been leaked ahead of its official unveiling by UK’s Vodafone. As anticipated, the phone centers on a high quality, high resolution 4.3-inch qHD 540x960 S-LCD display. It is also confirmed as HTC’s first dual-core smartphone, featuring a new Snapdragon 1.2GHz processor while it comes with 4GB of internal storage plus 8GB of storage provided by the supplied memory card. It is also equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash.

HTC Pyramid may be rebadged as Sensation

HTC's Pyramid flagship phone will show up at its April 12 event but with a name change, a source said Wednesday. It would be relabeled the Sensation, at least for the UK, and would ship sometime within the next few months. Pocket-lint in scoring the leak didn't identify a firm release date or carriers.

HTC has sent out a teaser for a special event on April 12. The notice said little other than asking the media to "join us to see what's next" on the backdrop of what appeared to be water rippling just after a drop. Engadget's copy otherwise only mentioned it taking place in London at 1:30PM local time, or 8:30AM Eastern.

HTC Pyramid spotted powered up with Android 2.3

HTC's flagship Pyramid has been spotted again in a scoop that has shown it running and also put to rest some rumors. Despite claims it would use Android 3.0, a source showed XDA-Developers proof it was still using Android 2.3, much like the closely related Evo 3D. The confusion likely came from HTC's use of Sense 3.0, which adds 3D home screen switching among other changes.

HTC Pyramid caught in the wild ahead of CTIA

The HTC Pyramid, previously spotted in renders, has had made its first unofficial appearance in the wild. The phone is expected to appear on T-Mobile’s network and is rumored to either be running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) or Ice Cream, which brings Honeycomb elements to Android smartphones. It is also expected to be HTC’s first smartphone featuring a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon clocking in at 1.2GHz.

HTC Pyramid still rumored with Android 3

The same leak on Tuesday that showed the HTC Ignite and Prime also showed what could be the first official render of the Pyramid. The all-touch phone would keep much of the styling of a phone like the Mozart or Desire HD but thinner and more efficient with its space. XDA.cn still insisted it would run the tablet-oriented Android 3.0 platform and carry a 1.2GHz (likely dual-core) processor along with a new 540x960, 4.3-inch screen.

HTC to bring Android 2.3 to four phones in Spring

An HTC spokesperson recently told SlashGear that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will get a software update to Android 2.3 this spring. The Desire is the oldest handset, and this latest news should be good for owners, as the device was earlier said to get the update later than the spring and after the Desire S launches.
