Move will see 5000 iPads put into Boeing 767 fleet

Qantas will be giving customers iPads to use for in-flight entertainment, following successful tests late last year. The Apple tablets will be rolled out to the entire Qantas 767 fleet, from the fourth quarter of this year onwards, starting with flights based on Australia's east-coast routes. Adding iPads to all 23 Boeing 767-300 craft would require at least 5,000 units, excluding spare tablets for repairs.

Australia's Qantas starts eight-week Wi-Fi trial

Australian airline operator Qantas has started an eight-week trial of in-flight Wi-Fi as of Wednesday. Dubbed Surf Sky High, the service will be available to first- and business-class travelers with Wi-Fi devices including notebooks, smartphones, and tablets. Certain Qantas A380 planes will be equipped with the Wi-Fi gear, traveling on routes from either Melbourne or Sydney to Los Angeles and back.

Qantas Airlines will begin offering iPads on a trial basis to its passengers for in-flight entertainment. The airline will be offering the devices to all 254 passengers on the plane. It will conduct the experiment on a single Boeing 767-300 aircraft flying between Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

'Broader roll out' coming, says spokesman

Jetstar flights run by Australia's Qantas Airways will soon feature iPads for in-flight entertainment, Dow Jones reports. "We're in the final stages of putting in place what would be a broader roll out across the network," says a Jetstar spokesman. "We're in ongoing discussion with the manufacturer around a more integrated network proposition." An Apple Australia spokeswoman has declined to comment.
