Intelligent traffic shaping technology uses cloud-based updates

Qualcomm Atheros has revealed its new intelligent bandwidth management technology for Wi-Fi routers and gateways. StreamBoost will allocate data to various Internet-connected devices on a network, automatically managing and shaping network traffic and giving specific applications traffic priority over others, such as gaming or video-on-demand applications.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi combined on Killer Gaming card

Killer Gaming, the network card maker specializing in traffic management technology that prioritizes games before other traffic, has introduced the Killer Wireless-N 1202 module. The successor to the Killer 1102 includes Bluetooth 4.0 onboard, saving notebook makers space by not having to include Bluetooth through a sperate module.

Qualcomm Atheros whets appetite with 802.11ac

Qualcomm Atheros has announced its plans for a full product ecosystem to support Wi-Fi 802.11ac, the gigabit successor to 802.11n. Heading the lineup is its new WCN3680 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM module that OEM’s can pair with devices shipping with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon S4 dual- and quad-core mobile processors. The new Wi-Fi standard can achieve speeds of up to 433Mbps in mobile phones, and up 1.3Gbps in tablets and PCs. This snap-in module will sit alongside the already built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n capabilities of the S4 SoC, offering users compatibility with both the older standards and the latest simultaneously.

Skifta Android app lets users stream to devices

Qualcomm Atheros just announced the release of the Skifta 1.0 Android app (free, Android Market) that will allow users to stream content from their Android devices or saved on the cloud to any DLNA-compatible device. It will offer a Channel library, that will let users access content from their Picasa, Photobucket, Soma.fm, Napster, ShoutCast, Revision 3 and TED Talks accounts or service, among others, without launching those apps separately.
