Uses two 2.5-inch 1TB drives in small enclosure

Notebook, netbook, Mac mini and other small-system users of Mac OS X and Windows who would like RAID functionality in a small, portable (and, under Firewire, bus-powered) package are the target of Sonnet's latest unveiling, the Fusion F2QR two-drive hardware RAID storage system. The tiny enclosure -- about the size of two stacked CD cases -- uses two 2.5-inch 1TB hard drives to offer up to 160MB per second read and 100MB per second write speeds.

OWC adds Plex, Blu-ray, RAID storage to 2010 Mac Mini

Set up allows iOS device mobile access, control

Other World Computing has launched a home theater package centering on Apple's Mac Mini, the OWC Media Center Solution for the 2010 Mac mini. The new service, which was previewed at the Macworld Expo, will preconfigure a 2010 Mac mini with Plex's digital media front-end app, add 4GB of RAM to the machine and bundle a portable Blu-ray burner and an OWC Mercury Pro Qx2 RAID 5 external drive, with either four, eight or 12TB of storage space. Combined with either an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid or HD DVR, the package can record and store Live TV, seek out streaming video via Plex apps, like Netflix, Joost, Hulu, Vimeo and YouTube, and back up DVD and Blu-ray movies for later streaming.

Mirrored volume still visible when hot-swapping

MacNN has taken a closer look at iStoragePro's Dock View RAID-iT2DockV. The RAID 0/1 box pairs two 3.5in hard disks with eSATA, FireWire800 -- and 400 -- and USB 2.0 interfaces. The drive offers hot-swap capabilities while still active on the Mac's desktop, allowing for changes to be made to the volume during a disk swap -- although volume rebuilding slows dramatically with drive access by the Mac.

Raidon Technology has announced the latest in its line of RAID storage systems, the GearRAID multi-bay storage family. Consisting of three different storage devices the 2-bay GR3630, 4-bay GR5630 and GT5630, each RAID system is designed for SOHO and workstation use and is used to help back-up and store the userís information. Both the GR3630 and GR5630 support USB 2.0, eSATA and FireWire 800 interfaces.

CalDigit releases 12TB RAID systems and two-drive VR

CalDigit has released the VR two drive RAID system and two new 12TB versions of its HDOne and HDPro lines of RAID storage devices. The VR is two drive RAID array that combines features of the FirewireVR and S2VR Duo, but in a new chassis. Connection options include Firewire 400/800, USB 2.0, and eSATA. RAID 0 and 1 modes are supported, with speeds claimed to reach 200MB per second. Software is provided that can be configured to send e-mail notification of drive problems or failures.

CalDigit has announced a new line of RAID storage options entitled Quadra. The Quadra RAID offers two 3.5" swappable drive mounts, which allows for quick replacement and changing of drives. The Quadra features an intergace that supports USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and eSATA, this allows drives to perform at up to 200MB per second. The Quadra RAID offers support for four different modes RAID 0, 1, JBOD and concatenated which can be set via a Graphic User Interface or with switch on the RAID itself. The casing also sports a orange backlit LCD screen that indicates RAID capacity, RAID information as well as an environmental monitor.

Sonnet Technologies has launched its Fusion F2 portable RAID storage system, which provides storage for on-location video capture or remote use when grid power is unavailable. Fusion F2 features 640GB of storage using two 2.5-inch drives mounted side by side in a rugged enclosure. Offering a low-profile, compact design measuring (5.9 x 6.2 x 0.72 inches). The compact Fusion F2 delivers high performance with data transfer rates up to twice as fast as a pair of FireWire 800 drives. Using FireWire for power only, the Fusion F2 features two eSATA data connections and is designed for use with the Sonnet Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 adapter (MacBook Pro). By connecting via SATA interface, Fusion F2 easily supports portable video capture in conjunction with an AJA Video Systems' Io HD, which requires dedicated use of FireWire bandwidth.
