Resolves issue with screen-sharing graphics in iChat, Messages
Apple has updated the client and admin components of its Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to version 3.6.2 in order to address an issue where users may only see white video when screen sharing from Messages or iChat to a system running OS X Lion. The current client version of ARD, which for most users is included in their version of OS X, can be updated through Software Update on Lion or Mountain Lion (website and Mac App Store not yet updated).
Client version fixes menu bug in
Just a week after making an update to Remote Desktop Admin to close a security bug, the company has pushed out 3.6.1 for both the Admin and Client version of Apple Remote Desktop (ARD). The new update fixes a specific Lion issue as well as improves launch speed when long computer lists are present, the reliability of migrated computer lists when upgrading from earlier versions, and offers better handling of remote computers with more than one display. The iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows was also updated.
Version 3.5.3 fixes non-encryption but in previous version
Late Monday, Apple updated its Apple Remote Desktop Admin software to version 3.5.3 to fix a fault in the previous version that failed to encrypt network data even when a preference to do so was expressly checked when connecting to a third-party VNC server. Although the fault was limited to version 3.5.2 and does not affect ARD Admin 3.1 and earlier, Apple is recommending that all 3.x versions update to version 3.5.3. Discovery of the issue is being credited to a student at Central Connecticut State University.
Xcode gets Retina support, upgraded language features
Continuing a spree of software updates, Apple has also posted new versions of Xcode and Remote Desktop for the Mac, and iTunes U for iOS devices. Xcode 4.4 incorporates upgrades such as Retina display support, new C++ and Objective-C features, and the ability to commit individually-selected changes during source control. By default, the software includes the latest SDKs for OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 5.1.
Software works from Macs, PCs, Linux stations
HOB has launched a remote desktop application for the Mac, HOB MacGate. The software provides access to a Mac desktop over a LAN or the Internet and allows users to view a Mac desktop on a PC, allowing technicians to work on the Mac from a PC, Linux or Mac, but also allowing a user to work simultaneously on both a Mac and PC from one seat. All the Mac functions are available to the remote user.
Separate client and admin releases
Apple has published twin updates for the Remote Desktop component of Mac OS X, bringing the software up to v3.3.2. The client update is a 4.21MB download, and makes several fixes to setup, distribution, asset management and the tool's main functions. Upgrading to v3.3.x will no longer reset client access privileges for instance, and the software should now properly report MacBook Air MAC addresses as well as several other pieces of data.
