Apple updates Remote Desktop client to 3.7.1, addressing several bugs

Dashboard widget also gets maintenance update

Apple has updated its Remote Desktop software for client machines, along with the Remote Desktop Dashboard widget for administrators. Version 3.7.1 of the client software is said to address "several issues related to overall reliability, usability and compatibility," providing support for OS X Mavericks, automatic copy-and-paste between local and remote computers, and improved support for multiple displays, among other enhancements.

Joins previously-rumored Mail update

Apple is preparing updates to several core apps in OS X Mavericks, sources say. The people note that Apple is now seeding new versions of Safari, iBooks, and Remote Desktop to its workers, as well as a previously-rumored Mail update. The Safari code is identified as v7.0.1, and expected to provide a number of bugfixes. The same description applies to iBooks 1.0.1, and Remote Desktop 3.7.1.

First revision to software in three years delivers enhanced connectivity

Microsoft has issued a pair of updates to its Apple-oriented Remote Desktop applications. Earlier today, it released versions for iOS and Android. A few hours ago, Microsoft churned out a long-in-coming update with several improvements to the software for OS X, bringing some much-needed enhancement and fixes to the software.

Updated client adds mobile OS to Windows, RT, OS X roster

Microsoft will be releasing a new version of its Remote Desktop software to Android and iOS in the future, as part of a raft of enterprise cloud computing launches. The app, which allows users to control a PC or virtual desktop remotely, will appear on the mobile operating systems at the same time as updated versions of the software ship for Windows, Windows RT, and OS X.

Apple releases seventh beta of OS X Mavericks, updates Xcode

Remote Desktop apps, Safari 6.1 beta also released

On Tuesday, Apple released the seventh Developer Preview beta of its forthcoming OS X Mavericks (10.9) update. Registered developers can obtain the new version by signing into the Mac App Store with their developer account Apple IDs. The update has a number of changes contained in it, including new wallpapers, a new format for screen recordings, and the optional ability of users with non-Admin accounts to install software from (only) the Mac App Store. In addition, Apple released new Remote Desktop 3.7, Xcode 5 and Safari 6.1 betas.

Apple updates Xcode 5, OS X Server, Remote Desktop

Continuing updates reinforce commitment to fall deadlines

In addition to the iOS 7, Apple TV and iTunes 11.1 betas issued earlier today, Apple has also updated the forthcoming Xcode 5, OS X Server and Remote Desktop betas for developers. The Xcode update (Developer Preview 4) fixes a number of crashing bugs and polishes up the interface, with OS X Server update (also at Developer Preview 4) offering much the same in the way of changes. Apple Remote Desktop 3.7 was also updated, but with no reported changes apart from a lack of any known major issues.

Apple Remote Desktop updated to 3.6.2, fixes screen-share

Resolves issue with screen-sharing graphics in iChat, Messages

Apple has updated the client and admin components of its Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to version 3.6.2 in order to address an issue where users may only see white video when screen sharing from Messages or iChat to a system running OS X Lion. The current client version of ARD, which for most users is included in their version of OS X, can be updated through Software Update on Lion or Mountain Lion (website and Mac App Store not yet updated).

Apple again updates Remote Desktop for admin, client

Client version fixes menu bug in

Just a week after making an update to Remote Desktop Admin to close a security bug, the company has pushed out 3.6.1 for both the Admin and Client version of Apple Remote Desktop (ARD). The new update fixes a specific Lion issue as well as improves launch speed when long computer lists are present, the reliability of migrated computer lists when upgrading from earlier versions, and offers better handling of remote computers with more than one display. The iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows was also updated.

Apple Remote Desktop updated, closes 3.5.2 security bug

Version 3.5.3 fixes non-encryption but in previous version

Late Monday, Apple updated its Apple Remote Desktop Admin software to version 3.5.3 to fix a fault in the previous version that failed to encrypt network data even when a preference to do so was expressly checked when connecting to a third-party VNC server. Although the fault was limited to version 3.5.2 and does not affect ARD Admin 3.1 and earlier, Apple is recommending that all 3.x versions update to version 3.5.3. Discovery of the issue is being credited to a student at Central Connecticut State University.

Xcode gets Retina support, upgraded language features

Continuing a spree of software updates, Apple has also posted new versions of Xcode and Remote Desktop for the Mac, and iTunes U for iOS devices. Xcode 4.4 incorporates upgrades such as Retina display support, new C++ and Objective-C features, and the ability to commit individually-selected changes during source control. By default, the software includes the latest SDKs for OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 5.1.

HOB offers MacGate for remotely accessing Mac desktops

Software works from Macs, PCs, Linux stations

HOB has launched a remote desktop application for the Mac, HOB MacGate. The software provides access to a Mac desktop over a LAN or the Internet and allows users to view a Mac desktop on a PC, allowing technicians to work on the Mac from a PC, Linux or Mac, but also allowing a user to work simultaneously on both a Mac and PC from one seat. All the Mac functions are available to the remote user.

Separate client and admin releases

Apple has published twin updates for the Remote Desktop component of Mac OS X, bringing the software up to v3.3.2. The client update is a 4.21MB download, and makes several fixes to setup, distribution, asset management and the tool's main functions. Upgrading to v3.3.x will no longer reset client access privileges for instance, and the software should now properly report MacBook Air MAC addresses as well as several other pieces of data.
