Magellan shows GPS for truckers, RV drivers, more
Magellan has just unveiled four new GPS devices for CES, starting with the RoadMate RV9145 and 5190T GPS navigators and being joined by the the Switch Up and Switch GPS watches. The RV9145 uses a seven-inch touchscreen and is made with RV travelers in mind, as it contains the Good Sam Trailer Life RV Parks & Campground Directory with 11,700 campground locations in the US and Canada. Drivers can also program in their vehicle's weight, height, and width to get routes that avoid low overpasses or narrow roads.

Magellan unveils GPS unit with own browser
Magellan has quietly slipped out a GPS unit of its own with Wi-Fi. The five-inch RoadMate 5175T-LM can connect to a local hotspot for browsing the web. The extra is considered a tool to browse for locations before getting directions, but a landscape mode also turns it into a miniature tablet for use while away from the car.

Includes traffic updates, Yelp and Google search
Magellan has released RoadMate App 2.0 for the iPhone. The new version of the app ($60, App Store) includes "lifetime" map updates for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, as well as Magellan's Lifetime Traffic service. New features include reviews of local businesses through Yelp as well as local Google search.

New GPS flagship offers free lifetime updates
Magellan has introduced a new flagship GPS unit, the 9055-LM. Specifications for the Roadmate 9055 were only hinted at in the FCC filing last Fall, so its 7-inch, WVGA touchscreen is something of a surprise. The device also has hands-free Bluetooth calling and free lifetime map updates and traffic information.

TomTom Go Live 1000, Magellan flagships hit FCC
The FCC has leaked word of two new including the Magellan RoadMate 9020/9055 as well as TomTom's Go Live 1000. More is known about the latter device, as it will be based on a WebKit interface, which is new for TomTom. It will sport a capacitative touchscreen, a magnetic mount and connected services such as real-time traffic updates.

Magellan ships RoadMate 3065 with traffic, BT
Magellan has revealed its latest GPS device, the RoadMate 3065. It sports a 4.7-inch screen and has Bluetooth for hands-free calls. The navigation device carries preloaded maps for the US, Canada and Puerto Rico and has free lifetime traffic updates.

Magellan outs new range of RoadMate PNDs
Magellan has upgraded its RoadMate series portable GPS, all of which will have free lifetime live traffic updates. This service will let drivers see upcoming traffic congestion and choose from alternate routes. The traffic interface has a flow report that shows the level of traffic rather than just reported accidents.

Magellan RoadMate 1700 official
Magellan gave its navigation units a new crowning model today in the RoadMate 1700. The GPS mapping device is one of the largest in the US and has a 7-inch, 800x480 display that's both easier to read from a distance and which provides more information onscreen. A video input jack helps exploit the extra size as an external display for a portable media player.

Large RoadMate GPS
Product pages for an unannounced Magellan GPS, the RoadMate 1700, have leaked on several online retailers such as Tiger GPS. The 1700 matches many of the same features as the rest of the RoadMate series, but adds a larger 7-inch display. Otherwise, the GPS offers a AAA TourBook, 6 million points of interest, text-to-speech and multiple-point routing.

Magellan RoadMate 1475T
Magellan today produced a quick but important hardware revision for its RoadMate line. The 1475T improves on the earlier 1470 with free traffic updates that help re-route drivers around congestion. Magellan's approach is ad-supported rather than subsidized and helps keep the GPS device's price down.

Magellan updates RoadMates
Portable GPS unit maker Magellan at the CTIA show last week quietly showed off three new RoadMate devices with new features that were carried over from the flagship Maestro series. One of them, the 4.7-inch Magellan RoadMate 1470, is already available for purchase online at Amazon. This particular unit includes the company's OneTouch interface that provides shortcuts to favorite features and allows users to search for points of interest from the main display and not have to dig for them inside sub-menus.
