Shutdown of AMD, Cell-based supercomputer despite #22 ranking

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is shutting down its Roadrunner supercomputer, after deeming it too energy inefficient. Constructed by IBM in 2008, the five-year-old supercomputer was at one point the fastest in the world after achieving a speed exceeding one petaflop: one million billion calculations per second.

Emails from Comcast, RoadRunner going missing at Apple

Old me.com, .mac accounts not getting messages

Some emails sent to me.com or .mac addresses are going missing, according to complaints on Apple's support forums. In particular messages sent from Comcast but predominantly RoadRunner domains are either arriving as much as a day late, or disappearing entirely. The affected domains are also scattered across the country rather than located in a particular region. Unexpectedly, forwarding a message from one account to another may work without issues.

Palm's Enyo framework to allow tablets, high-end phone apps

Palm previews Enyo platform for tablets at Dev Day

HP and Palm's Joe Hayashi at the Palm Developer Day this Saturday provided some of the first details of the developer platform that will support a slew of new webOS devices next year. The Enyo framework will replace Mojo and is built to support different designs beyond the mix of touchscreen and physical keyboard, such as full-touch phones and tablets like the PalmPad. The JavaScript code underneath should run faster and will be more modular to help fix bugs and add new features sooner than before.

HP to launch webOS 2.0 Roadrunner HD phone early 2011

webOS 2.0 phones inbound early in new year

A Senior HP company exec has stated that its first webOS 2.0 phones will ship in early 2011. The result of HPs acquisition of Palm, one of the first handsets likely to launch could be the rumored Roadrunner HD said to feature an iPhone 4 Retina display equaling 960x640 resolution.

HP/Palm RoadRunner device, webOS 2.0 hinted

WebOS developer Zhephree has found mention of a Palm RoadRunner device and mentions of webOS 2.0 in the operating system charts. He made this discovery in the logs on Metrix, and while this indicates that a device and/or webOS 2.0 is currently under development, it could be a ruse planted by a mischievous developer. That webOS 2.0 is currently under development is very likely, but this is the first mention of a RoadRunner device.

Cray XT5 supercomputer beats out IBM Roadrunner

IBM's Roadrunner supercomputer has been dethroned from the TOP500 list in terms of computing performance by the Cray XT5 supercomputer, nicknamed Jaguar. The XT5 uses AMD Opteron cores and posted up a 1.75 petaflop/s speed in the Linpack test, outpacing the Roadrunner's 1 petaflop/s performance.
