Toshiba has revealed two new notebooks in the form of the 15.6-inch Satellite C660 and Satellite Pro 660. Either can be had with chips from AMD or Intel, up to an Athlon II or Core i3, respectively. To keep prices low, there is only integrated graphics on both, with either Radeon or GMA HD video depending on the choice of processor.
Toshiba, together with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, have issued a voluntary recall of its T130 and T135 13.3-inch notebook PCs due to a possible risk of fire. The exact products that are potentially affected include the Satellite T135, Satellite T135D and Satellite Pro T130 notebooks. About 41,000 examples sold worldwide are covered under the recall.
Toshiba released updated Satellite Pro, Tecra and Portégé business notebooks on Tuesday to get its work PCs onboard with Windows 7. The Satellite Pro line features new screen sizes, including traditional 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch displays as well as a 13.3-inch touchscreen. Most of these business-oriented notebooks will ship with Windows XP Professional and Windows 7 Professional on separate DVDs so businesses can upgrade whenever they are ready. The new Satellite Pro U500 Touch has a multi-touch display and ships with Toshiba's touch-ready productivity software, LifeSpace.
Toshiba UK on Friday launched four new business notebooks in its Satellite Pro series, all preloaded with Windows 7 Professional. The additions include the 13.3-inch U500, the 15.6-inch L500, the 17.3-inch L550, 15.6-inch L450 and the same-sized L450D. Each includes Toshiba's LifeSpace application suite just for Windows 7-powered Toshiba notebooks, which helps users to organize their appointments and help them find up to 5,000 recently accessed files visually.
Toshiba has quietly added four new, lower-cost models to its business Satellite Pro S300 notebooks. Common to all is the S300's 15.4-inch screen, a DVD burner and an eSATA/USB combo port. The EZ1511 and EZ1512 models share the same hardware specs, with a 2.16GHz Pentium dual-core CPU, 1GB of memory and 120GB hard drive, with the only distinction being the operating system, with Windows Vista Home Basic in the former and Vista Business in the latter. They also get Wi-Fi and an integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics chipset.
