In documents made available today by the Federal Communications Commission, a new device submitted for testing presents a Segway to PC connection unit known as the "Segway Seg-Link Diagnostic Tool." Directions in the sparse user's manual included in the filing suggests that the device is intended for end users of the Segway.
Segway, maker of the two-wheeled, stand-up personal transportation vehicle, recently announced that it has been acquired by a UK-based company. This takeover is connected to a late December merger, though other details are scarce. Segway does reveal that the company that acquired it is backed by prominent UK businessman and chairman of Hesco Bastion, Jimi Heselden.
Segway's chief technology officer has left the company to join Apple, accounts say. J. Douglas Field is said to be responsible for the whole of the engineering team behind Segway's two-wheeled "personal transporter" vehicles, which were originally invented by Dean Kamen. At Apple Field will become a vice president of product design, serving alongside the likes of key designer Jonathan Ive.
