Later this month, Dropbox plans on launching a promotion giving HTC phone owners with devices that include the HTC Sense 4.0 app 23GB of online storage free for two years. Some industrious individuals found a work around that would let anybody, whether or not they owned such a phone, to leverage the deal. Dropbox has now issued an advisory that it is on to the scheme, and anybody who signed up for the storage in this manner will soon find themselves without it.

Cellphone maker HTC has released its Beats Audio-specific app programming interfaces (APIs) to developers, allowing them to integrate the functions to their own apps. Thus far, Beats Audio enhancements are only present in the native audio player of compatible handsets, which will soon include Windows Phone devices. Beats Audio in HTC phones is a set of software-based audio enhancements that are turned on automatically when the bundled Beats in-ear headphones are plugged in.

Google is now known to have been actively seeking patents on unlock techniques that would help avoid the legal clashes with Apple that have hurt Motorola and others. The patent filing for an "Input to Locked Computing Device" includes multiple possible techniques to get access to an Android phone. One of the core techniques would be a reverse of the ring unlock technique in HTC's Sense 3.0: users would drag an app icon to a screen area that then launches the app.

An unnamed source for HTC Hub in the Montenegro city of Podgorica has shown the slim, tapered phone and confirmed that it's running Android 4.0. HTC's custom Sense 4.0 interface is on top and appears to be closely related to Sense 3.5 and 3.6, although it has new visual transitions for jumping into menus.

Preempting the US event for the Rezound next week, HTC on Thursday planned to bring its international equivalent, the Raider, to North America first through Canada. Both Bell and Rogers are getting the LTE-based 4G version of the phone and can stream HD videos or otherwise get online faster still than either carrier's regular HSPA+ network. Accordingly, either version can tap into HTC's Watch movie store or use the 4G for a hotspot, although low LTE bandwidth caps may discourage using either feature often.

An investigation may have revealed a major security exploit in HTC's Android phones. The look, by Android Police and custom firmware maker Trevor Eckhart, alleges that HTC's most recent custom Sense UI interface has logging tools such as HTCLogger that insecurely collect private data. Any app that requires basic Internet permission can technically have access to account information, phone numbers, text messages, and even precise device information such as processor and memory details, installed apps, and location.

The HTC Amaze 4G, also known as the Ruby, is one of its first phones to support 42Mbps HSPA+ and gets closer to actual 4G speeds at 8Mbps on average and 20Mbps at peak. The 4.3-inch phone is a close cousin of the Sensation 4G but gets a faster 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 as well as T-Mobile-specific Sense customizations borrowed from the myTouch 4G Slide, such as the extra-fast, multi-shot, and sweep panorama camera modes.

AT&T began carrying its first 10-inch tablet outside of the iPad on Wednesday with the formal launch of the HTC Jetstream. Previously known as the Puccini, the 10-inch Android 3.1 tablet is the carrier's first non-modem to support LTE for its 4G, with a fallback to a still-fast HSPA+ 3G if necessary. The slate is much faster than the seven-inch Flyer through a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon fast enough to both record and play 1080p video.

The pen icon seen in the tray seems to indicate that the tablet will support Scribe, like its sibling the HTC Flyer.

The tablet will look more like HTC's smartphones with a 'wave' running through the back. As seen, BGR's example also includes the capacitive-friendly pen from the Flyer and an upscale leather case that would hold both the Puccini and its input add-on.
