Shure kicked off the NAMM audio show by putting out a new mid-range, in-ear headphone set and two new DJ reference headphones. The SE215 occupies the new low range with single drivers in each ear while still retaining signature longevity traits like a detachable, Kevlar-backed cable that should resist breaks in the long term. Its sound is tuned to the low end with upgraded bass.
Shure has just introduced a new set of earphones, the SE210m+. They improve upon the SE210 earbuds upon which they're based by adding an in-line three-button remote control with an integrated microphone. The headphones are certified to work with Apple's iPhone, iPod and iPad.
Shure has released three new pairs of high-end, sound-isolating in-ear headphones, including the single-driver SE315, dual-driver SE425 and triple-driver SE535. The latter two were introduced at this year's CES. The SE315 set has a vented driver and sports a detachable cable that can be formed for a comfortable fit. It ships with isolating tips that can provide as much as 37dB of ambient noise.
At the just-concluded CES, Shure revealed three new headphone sets, including a replacement for the SE115m+ set with the new SE115m, as well as a new dual driver SE425 and triple driver SE535 set. The SE115m has a one-button remote control along with a microphone integrated into its right earpiece cable. It also has second-generation drivers for improved sound quality and bass, and interchangeable earphone sleeves that passively block ambient noise. The 3-foot cable is detachable and a carrying case is included with the headphones.
Shure this evening launched its first set of in-ear headphones with an integrated remote control. The SE115m+ passes up Shure's usual music phone adapter for a smaller, in-line microphone and remote made just for Apple devices, including the iPhone 3GS and the third generation for both the iPod shuffle and iPod touch. While it gives up flexibility in the choice of earphones, it reduces the likelihood of the remote detaching or becoming lost.
Stepping even further beyond its familiar realm of in-ear buds, Shure today added the SRH750DJ over-ear headphones to its roster. These are tailored to DJs and audio editors and have pivoting ear cups made explicitly for turntablists or producers who need to quickly remove one earpiece during a mix. Shure vows balanced audio out of the 50mm drivers but also both strong bass and an extended high-end.
Shure has released a new line of professional headphones designed specifically for professional and amateur recording, consisting of the SRH840, SRH440 and SRH240. The line uses the same technology as Shure's in-ear buds but for an externaldesign suited to studio monitors or home theaters. The SRH840 features the highest quality sound in the line and a single-piece headband. The SRH840 and the SRH440 both have collapsible designs to render them portable.
Known most for its in-canal earbuds, Shure today ventured into the over-ear category with one model set to kick off a new line. The SRH240s are built for the entry level, semi-portable field with a small, 181-gram (6.4oz) design. Simultaneously, though, Shure vows both strong high- and low-frequency response as well as a sealed, padded cup that blocks out some of both the incoming and outgoing sound without becoming uncomfortable.
Shure's presences at CES and Macworld alike today were kicked off with the launch of new in-ear headphones and USB audio peripherals. The SE115 is claimed as a breakthrough that improves bass response in often weak single-driver headphones; a new dynamic unit produces better low-end frequencies without resorting to a smaller driver that itself would cut out much of the intended sound. They also signal a break in style for Shure and now come in blue, pink and red in addition to the conservative black used before.
Hoping to compete against the likes of V-Moda, Shure today launched the SE102MPA music and cellphone mic combo. The set reaches below the previous baseline of Shure's lineup by using the earbud design of the earlier E2C with the same music phone adapter as higher-end kits; the pairing gives owners of iPhones (including first-generation models), N95s and most other cellphones with a 3.5mm headphone jack the ability to listen to music at good quality while still having a quick toggle and mic to answer a phone call.
Logitech this morning said it has acquired Ultimate Ears. The $34 million deal gives Logitech its first true entry point into in-canal earphones and includes a lineup of devices geared both towards regular portable media players as well as audiophiles and professional concert or studio monitors. The move is more specifically intended by Logitech to support its iPhone and iPod lineups, which so far consist only of speaker docks.
