Fewer dictionaries pre-loaded than leaked
Sony has released its newest e-reader a bit earlier than observers had expected, with the Reader PRS-T2 now available for purchase on Sony's site several weeks before its predicted release. The device, leaked in an advertisement earlier this week, had been expected to go on sale some time next month. Most of the specifications expected to show up in the new e-reader have indeed materialized, and it is available in white, red, and matte black.

Reader to include Harry Potter book, 12 dictionaries
Sony may be set to release a new e-book reader sometime next month, according to a leaked advert. According to The Digital Reader, the Sony Reader PRS-T2 appeared in an advertisement by MCX Brands, a company that operates stores on US Marine Corps bases. The Reader is claimed to weigh six ounces and have a six-inch 800x600 E-Ink touchscreen with included stylus, as well as a two-month battery life.

Sony Reader rooted, can run third-party apps
The Sony Reader PRS-T1 has been rooted. While it has been known that the e-reader runs a version of Android, it was thought that it could not be hacked as the Android install was not a full version. As the video below demonstrates, a AWD.Launcher has been hacked to run on the device, although not all apps work.

Sony multi-touch Reader Wi-Fi ships October 16
The Sony Reader Wi-Fi (PRS-T1) e-book hardware is now up for pre-order through the Sony online store. The device will go head-to-head with the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook, and is priced competitively at $149. With a look inspired by its Xperia smartphone line, the Sony Reader sports the latest generation E Ink six-inch panel that also incorporates mult-touch capabilities for the first time.

Company demands in-app purchase options
The rejection of the Sony Reader app does not represent a change in App Store rules, an Apple spokeswoman claims. A New York Times report suggested that the ban represents a "further tightening" of Apple's control of the App Store, blocking access to purchases made outside of the store's ecosystem. "We have not changed our developer terms or guidelines," insists Apple's Trudy Miller.

Raises questions over the future of Kindle app
Apple has locked out the Sony Reader app from the App Store for violating its store rules policy, according to a report. The Sony Reader app has already made its debut on the Android Market and was expected to appear on the iOS platform. The reason for the rejection, according to the New York Times, is that the Sony Reader app would have directed users outside of the Apple ecosystem allowing them to purchase their content directly from Sony. According to Apple’s App Store rules, any app that offers in-app purchases must go through the official Apple portal.
