Second hinge allows for display to hover above keyboard
Acer is using its tie-in with the movie Star Trek: Into Darkness to tease a notebook with a sliding-hinge screen. The clip, which intersperses clips from the film with that of the notebook sliding down a textured wall, calls it "A Unique Notebook" that will be revealed on May 3rd, ahead of the movie's own release on May 17th.

Actor and Director from iconic series to speak about storytelling
Two Star Trek icons and an animator will be talking during the Lunchtime Sessions at WWDC this week. LeVar Burton, J.J. Abrams, and William Joyce will be speaking at the conference, with subjects centering on how technology is impacting storytelling and views on changing the content creation process, along with demonstrations on how these are happening.

Star Trek PADD gets official iPad app
Star Trek fans saw a slice of the sci-fi become real on Monday after CBS put out an official PADD app ($5, App Store). The app recreates the device's LCARS interface from TNG-era shows and is treated as a database for the universe with characters, ships, species, and TV episodes. It carries 'authentic' sound effects and has diagnostic demos around the NCC1701-D version of the Enterprise.

Game features online multiplay, four game modes
Paramount and TransGaming have announced a December release for a Mac version of Star Trek: D-A-C. The new game is a top-down space shooter game pitting Starfleet against the Romulan Empire, supporting online multiplayer for up to 12 players, online co-op and single-player gameplay. Gameplay options include survival, team deathwatch, conquest and assault. Defeated ships offer new abilities and score pick-ups in survival mode, while conquest and assault gameplay involve attacking or defending sectors of space.
