Samsung intros four Galaxy phones for IFA 2011

Samsung ramped up the launch of four new smartphones under a previously hinted new naming scheme. The Galaxy W hits the new mid-range and runs on a 1.4GHz, single-core chip with a 3.7-inch display. It still as much of the modern TouchWiz interface on top of Android 2.3 and supports up to 14.4Mbps HSPA for reasonably fast 3G.

SAP, Sybase join on iPhone

SAP and Sybase are collaborating on applications for the iPhone and other cellphones, says Reuters. SAP's business management software is in the process of being shrunk by Sybase, which already produces generic scaling tools for the broader market. The latter company is also known for developing iAnywhere, intermediate software used to bridge iPhones with corporate e-mail networks that have stricter security standards.

Sybase has announced that its iAnywhere Mobile Office system now has extended support for the iPhone 3G. iAnywhere interfaces with corporate e-mail systems which might otherwise block the phone, due to security concerns; it instead provides an intermediate layer, which lets companies perform functions like attachment limiting, e-mail deletion, or even blocking a user entirely. iPhone owners can meanwhile use their native e-mail client.

Sybase sets sights on corporate iPhone e-mail

Sybase & iPhone e-mail

Enterprise developer Sybase has plans for its own proprietary iPhone e-mail software, Reuters reports. The company's CEO, John Chen, says that an iPhone application should be released "soon," and certainly before the end of 2008. It will let people access corporate e-mail with the same amount of security available on other phones, such as Palm's Treo or RIM's BlackBerry.
