Android smartphone can be used as a remote
ThinkFlood has moved beyond beta and has officially released the Android version for its Redeye app. Using it, Android smartphone owners can now control diverse devices, including home theaters, set top boxes, lighting systems and air conditioners. The app (free, Android Market) is used in conjunction with ThinkFlood's RedEye hardware to bridge the gap between a Wi-Fi device and IR-based receivers.

ThinkFlood RedEye for Android hits beta
ThinkFlood gave Android owners rare access to a universal remote app through a beta version of RedEye for Android. Much like the iPhone version, it can steer either the regular Wi-Fi using RedEye or a RedEye Pro and send both raw and programmed IR commands to home theater gear, including multi device tasks like switching on a TV and starting a movie player. It works with at least Android 1.6 on phones and scales up to Android 3.0 tablets.

RedEye Pro brings whole-home automation to users
ThinkFlood, maker of home automation products, has just released its latest and greatest product, the RedEye Pro home automation controller. Once set up, users can control their home's ventilation system, lights, sprinklers, security system and other connected systems using their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or home computer and soon, Android devices as well. The RedEye Pro has eight, dual-purpose 3.5mm infrared emitters and contact closure sensor ports.

ThinkFlood v2.0.1 software adds more browsers
ThinkFlood on Thursday announced the release of the latest software update for its RedEye Wi-Fi remote controls. Version 2.0.1 will allow users to setup and manage their RedEye systems from any browser that's connected to their home network. Thus far, RedEye users were relegated only to the iOS platform.

RedEye mini IR adapter now shipping
ThinkFlood has now began shipping its RedEye mini remote control adapter for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as promised. The device, which plugs into the Apple device's 3.5mm headphone jack, works in conjunction with an included app and will control any home theater devices that use IR remotes. Using the app, custom layouts can be created, and controls can include the multi-touch and accelerometer features.

RedEye bridges Wi-Fi to IR in home theaters
ThinkFlood today formally unveiled RedEye, a unique adapter that turns an iPhone or iPod touch into a remote for a home theater. It bridges Wi-Fi to infrared and uses a custom iPhone app (free, App Store) to steer the device using premade infrared codes. Much like a Logitech Harmony remote, the app not only has an onscreen remote interface but can be programmed to automatically perform multiple tasks for a particular activity, such as turning on the TV, switching inputs and ejecting the tray on a Blu-ray player to load a new movie.
