Graphics Properties Holdings claims video tech
The company resulting from the liquidation of once-giant workstation developer Silicon Graphics, Graphics Properties Holdings, hoped to profit from the work of the smartphone and TV industries after it quietly filed an International Trade Commission dispute late this week against key companies. It alleges that Apple, HTC, LG, RIM, Samsung, Sony, and Sony Ericsson are violating three patents for video technology. The patents appear to cover obvious technology, including floating point math to render the image, parcel instruction processing, and even widescreen LCD displays.

Consumer Reports picks iPhone 4S despite antenna
Consumer Reports partly changed its tune on Apple and recommended the iPhone 4S on Tuesday. It claimed that the dual, auto-switching antenna system on the newer Apple phone had solved the 'death grip' problem cause by covering up the bottom-left antenna gap. It also didn't notice the battery life issues reported by some and saw iOS 5.0.1 covering those might have problems.

LG says Android 4 on the way for high-end phones
After already changing its mind, LG on Wednesday promised that it would bring Android 4.0 to its high-end devices. It was "planning" the update for the Optimus 2X, which sells in the US as the T-Mobile G2X, as well as further high-end models. A schedule would come once Google had publicly shipped the OS, which is expected around when the Galaxy Nexus arrives later this month.

LG Q3 shows Android not enough to stem losses
LG in its summer results saw its mobile group worsen despite its shift to higher-end Android models. The group lost $128.47 million, more than twice what it had lost in the spring. It didn't say what had triggered the shortfall or how many phones it had shipped, although it has regularly seen its basic phone sales drop faster than it can compensate with smartphones.

HTC Jetstream and LG Thrill 3G finally on sale
AT&T has had one of its more important weekends ahead of the iPhone 5 with the arrivals in store for the HTC Jetstream and LG Thrill 4G. The Jetstream is not just the carrier's first LTE-based 4G tablet but also its first 10-inch tablet outside of the iPad. It mates Android 3.2 with HTC's first version of its Sense interface for the tablet-native Google OS.

ATT confirms LG Thrill 4G ship date
AT&T on Monday put to rest questions of when the LG Thrill 4G would ship. The carrier confirmed rumors and said that its take on the Optimus 3D will ship on September 4. It still wouldn't commit to a price, although the Thrill 4G is presumed to sit at $200 or less on a contract.

2nd slip in less than 3 weeks
AT&T has once again slipped the delivery of the LG Thrill 4G. In an email leaked by Android Central, Radio Shack Store Managers and salesmen were told that the new Android-based phone, which was expected to be on store shelves August 21, would not be available until September 4. They were also told to stop taking pre-orders immediately.

Phone to sell for $100
AT&T has said the LG Thrill 4G will be priced at $100 with a contract. Although AT&T didn't provide a launch date to Engadget, Radio Shack is reportedly taking pre-orders for August 7th delivery.
