Touch Diamond2 Taiwan
HTC has announced that the Touch Diamond 2 is set to launch in Taiwan later this month. The touchscreen handset will carry a price of NT$21,900 (~$650 USD) and will ship with an 8GB memory card. HTC improved the specs from the last model, with an expanded screen size of 3.2-inches and 480 by 800 pixel resolution. The device also sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and a new touch-sensitive zoom strip underneath the display.
Verizon phone leak
Verizon appears to be preparing to launch the LG 9600 Versa, Nokia 7205 Intrigue, HTC Touch Diamond and a CDMA version of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, according to a leaked presentation caught by Engadget. An earlier report suggested the Versa initially would launch at Best Buy Mobile on February 22nd, with a Verizon Wireless release expected around the same time. The handset can be used as a clamshell with a full QWERTY keyboard and a small external display, or the keyboard can be detached to use the device as a touchscreen phone only.
3G Touch Diamond confirmed
A new leak today reveals the much-anticipated HTC Touch Diamond will support HSDPA and HSUPA 3G data networks in the US market. The news comes after the device was spotted on Best Buy's online store, listed as unlocked and sporting a near $700 price tag. Best Buy estimates customers will get their HTC Touch Diamonds sometime between September 29 and October 4, although that may be postponed closer to those dates.
HTC Touch phones at Sprint
A Web-wide leak showing pricing and availability information for Sprint's upcoming handsets reveals when both the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro will see release, according to a recent report. The Diamond will be available around the middle of September, while its QWERTY-equipped counterpart – the Touch Pro – will make its Sprint debut on October 19th.
Diamond gets GSM 850, EDGE
A ROM update for the HTC Touch Diamond was released on Wednesday, giving the phone a few added capabilities, with the addition of the 850MHz GSM band for calling -- but not 850MHz 3G over HSPA for data -- and a quicker response from the TouchFLO 3D touchscreen interface chief among them. Users who perform the upgrade will also be able to use the EDGE data network.
HTC Touch Pro debuts
HTC Corp on Wednesday unveiled the HTC Touch Pro, a business version of the highly anticipated Touch Diamond. The new touch-driven phone -- with a sliding-keyboard design -- utilizes similar styling and functionality, while adding a variety of business-focused enhancements, including a full QWERTY keyboard. The company's 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D, provides an intuitive way to navigate through common tasks like messaging, calendar appointments or making calls with just one touch as well as navigating through photos/contacts and surfing the web. In addition, the Touch Pro includes a new innovative touch-sensitive control for device interaction, a 2.8-inch VGA touch-screen LCD, support for Windows Mobile 6.1, a 3.2MP camera, a microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, GPS support, and 512MB internal memory.
WSJ Echoes BBerry Thunder
Evidence for Research in Motion's BlackBerry Thunder mounted today with claims by the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper claims to corroborate sources at BGR and says that RIM is developing a touchscreen phone with equal support for Verizon's CDMA phone network as well as Vodafone's GSM network in Europe. Both carriers will offer the device exclusively, the paper adds.
