Ubisoft filled the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles today for their press briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Aisha Tyler hosted the event for the third time, as the company covered some of its soon-to-be-released games, as well as some others that are in the works. Big news came from the company, as it announced the release of a new Rainbow Six game, titled Rainbow Six: Siege.
Sells over four million copies during first week, breaks first day Ubisoft sales record
Earlier this week, Ubisoft made an announcement regarding sales on its newest game property, Watch Dogs. The game, which saw a rocky start on some platforms, is said to have sold over four million copies during its first week. The number of copies sold has lead Ubisoft to claim that it is the "best-selling new IP at launch across the entire video game industry."
Assassin's Creed Pirates adds new island region
Ubisoft has announced its third major update for Assassin's Creed Pirates, featuring a new region for players to explore. The latest version includes the remote area of La Boca, del Diablo -- an island far away from typical commercial boating routes. Players learn more about what the island holds in store as they navigate the new accompanying story mission.
Dual band range extender uses wall plug, extends range of signal up to 30 meters
Diamond Multimedia has released a new product in its wireless range extender line. The dual-band WR600NSI, which plugs directly into a wall socket, acts as a wireless repeater, range extender and wireless bridge device with 802.11n technology. The WR600NSI supports 300 Mbps over both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The wireless range extender can also take wireless signal and convert it to a wired Ethernet connection.
Mixvibes' Cross DJ 3.1 released, DJ competition announced
Mixvibes has introduced the newest version of its cross-platform software, Cross DJ v3.1.0. The software provides users with the tools needed to DJ, such as browsing track catalogues, and monitoring playing track's peaks and phrasings. The new version allows for the ability of users to record their mix and share it on Mixcloud and Youtube, as well as Dailymotion.
Newest title in the franchise places gamers in the French Revolution
Ubisoft has revealed the new Assassin's Creed Unity title for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One systems. The latest title in the franchise has been in production for more than three years, according to the company. No story details have been released about the protagonist or if any new game elements are coming, such as the ship battles seen in Black Flag. However, the time frame and setting are outlined in the trailer, as the game takes place in France during the French Revolution. No official release date has been given for Unity, but the teaser trailer offers a "holiday 2014" window.
Ubisoft's 'hack everything' game to be released May 2014
Ubisoft's open world, cyber-espionage title Watch_Dogs now has official release dates of May 27 for North America and May 29 for the rest of the world on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. The game was pushed in back in October 2013 from its original release window, which coincided with Ubisoft's fiscal year-end of March. Watch_Dogs was originally pinned to be a launch title for the newest generation of consoles, but had been delayed to this spring in order to allow more time for its development. Gamers holding out for the Wii U version will have longer to wait, as a release date for Nintendo's console has yet to be confirmed.
Assassin's Creed Pirates for iOS and Android adds new map area
Ubisoft has announced that its game Assassin's Creed Pirates has been updated for iOS and Android devices. The update includes a new map area and campaign missions, with three new secondary missions and new treasures and diaries available for collecting. Each map features its own "survival mission," where players can fish and hunt whales for food. The update to Assassin's Creed Pirates is free for existing users.
Game publisher advises no payment details compromised
Servers belonging to video game publisher Ubisoft have been compromised in a recent attack. Hackers are said by the company to have gained access to sensitive data, including usernames, e-mails, and encrypted passwords, and has started to e-mail Uplay account holders to warn about the intrusion and the data loss.
Assassin's Creed III bundled with Pro version of drives
Samsung is hoping to attract gamers to its new 840 SSD line by bundling Assassin's Creed III with the 840 Pro. The promotion mirrors a similar offer earlier in the year, where the company offered Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, another Ubisoft title, at no charge to purchasers of its 128GB, 256GB and 512GB 830 series solid state drives.
Rayman Legends trailer shows Wii-U touch controls
A trailer for Rayman Legends has leaked online, showing what appears to be touch controls and NFC capabilities of the Wii U. The trailer has since been said by Ubisoft to not be a representation of the final game, nor the Nintendo console.
Strict DRM measures block access
Beginning February 7th, several Mac and Windows games will be become temporarily unplayable, publisher Ubisoft has announced. These include Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2, Might & Magic: Heroes VI, and The Settlers 7 for Windows, and the Mac ports of Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and The Settlers. The company is moving servers out of a third-party data center into a new building, and promises that the end result will "improve the maintenance of our infrastructure and deliver better uptime and greatly improved services for our customers."
Ubisoft CEO says Nintendo Cafe friendly to ports
Nintendo's Project Cafe will be much more friendly to cross-platform games than the Wii, Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot hinted during a results call. He explained that developers could "leverage a lot of the work" from the PS3 and Xbox 360. Titles would still be optimized for the future console, according to Guillemot, but much more of the core work will carry over.
Ubisoft Battle Tag system now up for sale at $130
Ubisoft's Battle Tag laser gun system has been approved by the FCC and is now available for pre-order. The guns operate using RFID tags for a much more advanced approach to laser tag, with the system sporting virtual hit points, ammo, med-packs and a few different game modes. The system also uses a fabric vest that has sensors on the chest, back and shoulders.
Game survey hints Sony NGP starts at 250
Sony may price the NGP considerably lower than feared by some. An Ubisoft survey gauging early adoption said it expected the basic, Wi-Fi version of the NGP to cost $250 while the 3G version would cost $350. Gamers were asked how likely they would buy the handheld based on those prices, Kotaku learned.
Gamers explore Renaissance Italy as an assassin
UbiSoft has released an update to its stealth-based action game, Assassin's Creed 2 Deluxe Edition. The game tracks Ezio Auditore da Firenze in a story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in Renaissance Italy. Gamers befriend Leonardo da Vinci, fight Florence’s most powerful families and explore the canals of Venice while learning master assassin skills.

With E3 just finished, it's time for the market to start evaluating game companies. But as EA, Ubisoft, Activision, and others continue to get all the headlines, social-gaming companies don't get the kind of respect their bigger competitors do. This may have to change with larger platform supporters, including non-traditional Apple, as they may be ignoring an untapped market.
Ubisoft Mac game lineup
Game developer Ubisoft has announced a new lineup of games, all ports of Windows titles, which should soon ship for Macs through a deal with TransGaming. Prominent in the list is Prince of Persia, the latest in the series of action-adventure games originally begun by Brøderbund. Players control the Prince as he helps the enchantress Elika restore fertility to the land; the main challenge is in navigating precipitous obstacles, while occasionally engaging in swordfights with a variety of enemies.
