Hitachi claims fastest ever 10,000RPM pro hard drive

Hitachi Ultrastar C10K600 drive touts record speed

Hitachi started its week today with what it says is the fastest professional 10,000RPM hard drive. While spinning at the same speed as rivals, the 600GB Ultrastar C10K600's 64MB of cache and optimizations help it transfer data about 15 percent faster in random seeks and 18 percent faster sequentially than the previous (though unnamed) best. Although more energy-saving than a usual desktop drive by its notebook-sized 2.5-inch design, newer power management also makes it about 22 percent more efficient than a rival.

Enhance Tech upgrades storage units with 2TB 7200rpm options

New drives offer faster speeds, lower power draw

Enhance Technology expanded its line of storage systems to include optional Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 7200RPM hard disks. Storage capacities are now increased to 16TB for the Enhance 8-disk desktop & rackmount storage arrays and 32TB on the flagship 16-disk UltraStor Professional Storage Systems, allowing total storage of 160TB through SAS storage expansion.

Hitachi outs enterprise-grade, 15,000RPM Ultrastar drives

Hitachi 15,000RPM Ultrastar drives now shipping

Hitachi has released two new hard drives on Tuesday, both turning at the fastest-possible 15,000RPM design. Part of the Ultrastar series, this includes the company's first 2.5-inch drive with the extra speed, the C15K147, and the firm's fourth-generation 3.5-inch drive, the 600GB 15K600. Either has a 6Gbps SCSI (SAS) interface, though the latter can be had with a 4Gbps Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FCAL) interface as well. The 15K600 also has one third more the capacity of its predecessor while claimed to be 23 percent faster.
