Midrange smartphone expected in North America

The Bluetooth SIG has cleared Huawei's Vision U8850 handset, suggesting the midrange Android smartphone may be headed to the North American market. The Bluetooth standards group tested a variant that supports HSDPA 850MHz and 1900MHz bands, pointing to compatibility with AT&T's network, though a specific carrier has yet to be confirmed.

Huawei Vision video shows up, undergoes FCC tests

The recently introduced Huawei Vision smartphone has now showed up in a video and over on the FCC site. The former focuses mainly on the handset's 3D interface, while the latter is an indication that it's nearly ready for production. Otherwise, the metal-bodied phone gets a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and is less than 0.4 inches thick at its thinnest.

150 percent speed improvement, says company

Re:Vision Effects, who make plug-ins for many of the most popular video editing software packages such as Apple's Final Cut Studio, have updated their ReelSmart Motion Blur (RSMB) and Twixtor plug-ins for Eyeon Software's Vision and Fusion compositing softwares. The main new feature in each is speed, with RSMB v4 for Fusion performing 1.3 to 2 times faster than v3, while Twixtor v5 for Fusion is 130 to 150 percent faster than v4.

Creative X-Fi Teaser

Creative is readying itself for a new X-Fi product launch next week, the copmany has revealed through an invite sent out to an Engadget reader. The invite for the September 17th event provides only a brief glimpse of a device with the X-Fi logo and states that the brand is "heard everywhere," hinting that the launch is for one or more portable devices. No other details have been revealed through the message.

Rogers first to carry Nokia...

Nokia N95 8GB at Rogers

Rogers today confirmed one of two key rumors concerning its phone lineup for the spring by announcing it would carry the Nokia N95 8GB. The Canadian provider is the first in North America to officially stock the smartphone and takes advantage of the phone's 3G support for more than is possible on AT&T in the US, including Rogers' VISION two-way video calling service (courtesy of its front camera) and access to the carrier's music store and video streaming services.
