ESPN's WatchESPN app adds Chromecast support for iOS and Android
Available beginning today, users of ESPN's WatchESPN apps can access content with Google's Chromecast dongle. Live broadcasts can be streamed directly to users' televisions with this update, including channel content from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPNEWS, and ESPN Deportes.
Cable subscriber authentication required, no deal in place
The Walt Disney Company's network executive Sean Bratches said in an interview today that Disney would consider allowing the WatchESPN service application on the Apple TV set top device. Prior authentication of cable access would be required to view. No deal is imminent.
Extends contract for 8 years, adds digital content
ESPN and the NFL have extended their agreement for coverage of Monday Night Football for an additional eight years. As part of the extension, ESPN will be augmenting its rights package to include distribution of 3D content, expanded highlight rights across ESPNís television and digital platforms, and simulcast network coverage of ESPNís MNF and NFL studio programs on tablet devices through ESPNís WatchESPN App.
