HTC was found to have applied for a patent on a potentially unique dual-touchscreen design. The book-like design would have a touchscreen on each "page," not unlike a Courier, but would change functions depending on the angle of the hinge. Angled like a notebook it would use one screen for a keyboard, but flat it would merge into a single display for tablet-style control.
ASUS chairman Jonney Shih revealed the future plans of the company in a recent interview, predicting that the pioneer of the netbook category will continue with its success. Among the revelations to Silicon was that the company is developing slate PCs meant for multimedia consumption and web use, but is holding off from releasing them as Shih feels content needs to be more readily accessible before the devices can be successful. This includes more e-book stores, music, videos and games created just for the devices.
ASUS is using CES as the vehicle for a new design concept it hopes will guide its design in the future. Known as Waveface, it centers on using organic designs and new technology to make technology more natural as well as more flexible. The centerpiece is the Waveface Light, which Electronista had the chance to see at ASUS' booth: it would act as a flexible OLED tablet that also fold up into a more conventional notebook design. A mockup interface would have a live stream of data and in tablet form let two users interact at the same time.
