S3 storage also reduced by a quarter
Amazon has launched a new data warehouse service at the Amazon Web Services re:Invent conference today, alongside some price changes to its hosting and processing services. The petabyte-scale service called Amazon Redshift will allow users to "dramatically increase the speed of query performance" when large sets of data are being analyzed, and will work with the same SQL-based tools already being used.

Introduces Amazon Glacier-style backup system
Google has updated the pricing for its cloud computing services, with the new costs representing a drop of about 20 percent compared to what they were previously. The changes come in just before Amazon holds its re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, a developer event focusing on Amazon Web Services and cloud computing.

Storms in North Virginia takes out Amazon data center
Netflix, Instagram, and other web services were hit by an Amazon Web Services outage. Historic thunderstorms in Northern Virginia caused power outages for Amazon data center in the region, forcing services depending on EC2 from it to be severely affected, with Netflix in particular suffering considerable amounts of downtime.

WebEx epands Mac support
Late last month, Cisco's WebEx division announced expanded Mac OS X support across its suite of business process collaboration applications, saying that Mac use has doubled in the last year. The online collaboration services--including WebEx Meeting Center, WebEx WebOffice, WebEx Event Center, WebEx Training Center, WebEx Sales Center and WebEx Support Center -- now offer cross-platform support for Mac OS X Leopard and Safari 3, as part of Cisco WebEx's ongoing attention to multi-platform support and its growing customer base of Mac users.
