Android overall inching forward, but top two take 78.7 percent of traffic
A new study of North American smartphone share by mobile ad platform Chitika shows that some 78.7 percent of all smartphone web traffic in the region is run off just two brands of smartphones: Apple and Samsung, with the former's share being roughly double that of the latter (52.3 percent versus 26.4 percent). Korean manufacturer Samsung saw a higher percentage growth between February and July of this year, at 1.2 percent, but the figure shows how little volatility there remains in the mature NA market.
Apple tablet dominate rivals, put squeeze on Amazon
Apple's iPad tablet has high a five-month high in terms of web interaction by North American users, reports mobile advertising firm Chitika, with the next two groups of rivals -- Amazon's Kindle Fire and Samsung's Galaxy tablet models -- far behind. While the iPad platform dropped slightly in April, the report from May shows not only a return to form but surpassing its previous dominance, to a level not seen since Christmas, 82.4 percent. Combined, all the tablet rivals to the iPad have less than 18 percent share in real-world usage stats.
Apple and iPhone appeal
Ahead of Apple's earnings announcement, Nielsen Online on Monday sent out a compiled list of statistical data on the company, showing that overall brand awareness and iPhone users are up this quarter. Nielsen reveals that over the second quarter, web traffic to Apple.com grew 12-percent, from 44.3 million unique monthly impressions to 49.7 million, while total time spent on the website grew from 8.7 billion minutes to 10.1 billion over the course of the last year.

According to new data from Nielsen Online, Web traffic to the Apple Inc's sites collectivly grew 13 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2008, from a three-month average monthly unique audience of 42.9 million to 48.4 million. Total minutes spent on the site grew 12 percent year over year, from 9.4 billion in Q1 2007 to 10.5 billion in Q1 2008, while total purchases at The Apple Store grew 32 percent month over month, from 322,000 purchases in January 2008 to 424,000 purchases in February 2008. iTunes, Apple Store and QuickTime were the top three fastest growing Apple Computer Web channels year over year in Q1 2008

Safari most popular in US
StatCounter today revealed that Safari is the most popular web browser in use in the United States, surpassing Windows Mobile, Palm, and Opera by a wide margin. According to Yahoo, Safari occupies 0.23 percent of US web traffic, with Nokia devices coming in at around 0.08 percent. Internationally, however, their positions are reversed: Nokia was found to have the top tier spot with 0.25 percent share, while the iPhone came in second with 0.08 percent.
RAM for new MacBooks

Apple ranks 15th in Web traffic in Japan according to new statistics release by comScore. Apple garnered 15,633,000 unique visitors in Japan in January. comScore reports "January saw increased visitation to education, career, automotive and real estate sites as many people in Japan focused their Internet activity on planning for the New Year. Several news sites, including J-Cast.com, Sponichi.com, and Jiji.com, saw significant gains in January, with elections in Osaka, the Sumo wrestling tournament, and the Chinese food scandal being major topics in the news."

Apple's Web traffic up 18%
Traffic to Apple's website grew 18 percent over the same period last year, according to Nielsen Online. The Cupertino-based company's traffic jumped from a three-month average monthly unique audience of just under 40 million to 46.8 million. Statistics reveal a 14 percent growth in total minutes spent at Apple's website this year over last year, from 8.8 billion minutes in the fourth quarter of 2006 to 10 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007.
