TYLT announces new Energi Sliding Power Case and ALIN screen protector for new Galaxy S5

Portable power and wireless charging manufacturer, Tylt, has today introduced its Energi Sliding Power Case and Alin Screen Protector for the newly released Samsung Galaxy S5. The Energi Sliding Power Case pairs portable charging with physical protection, and is equipped with a 2,800mAh internal battery that is double the capacity of the Galaxy S5. The ALIN screen protector facilitates an easy installation, with its accompanying alignment tool. Four screen protectors are provided, with each featuring two removable tabs to avoid fingerprints during the application process.

The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) has launched a new brand for devices that adhere to its certification program. The "Rezence" logo will be applied to devices that are compatible with a third wireless charging system that relies on the principles of magnetic resonance to transfer power, something that offers a number of advantages over existing wireless power systems.

Sony wireless charging tech to cut time in half, due 2014

Sony working on double speed wireless charging

Sony is developing wireless charging technology that will cut the charging time in half, reports Japanís Nikkei. The new technology, which is due in the second half of 2014 will dramatically reduce the time for wirelessly charging a device taking it down to around one hour. Sony is able to achieve the reduction as by being able to successfully conduct electricity at 10-15 Watts, double the amount current wireless chargers are able to deliver.

GM bringing Powermat wireless charging to autos

General Motorls will offer consumers the option of wireless charging for mobile devices in some of its automobiles, Bloomberg reported this week. Select GM models will be equipped with Powermat wireless charging surfaces, which will require compatible devices that either have wireless charging capabilities built in or are paired with a wireless charging case. The collaboration was confirmed by Powermat Technologies CEO Ran Poliakine, though GM has so far declined to comment.

More details concerning the launch and charging of the LG G2 have been revealed. Six carriers will be offering the smartphone in Canada, while wireless charging has been touted for the Verizon variant and also for European carriers, though the version crossing the Atlantic will not have the capability built into the device.

Samsung releases wireless charging pad, battery cover for Galaxy S4

Samsung has put a wireless charging system for the Galaxy S4 up for sale. The wireless charging pad and separate battery cover, costing $50 and $40 respectively, both use the same Qi charging system that's available for the Nokia Lumia 920. This allows the Galaxy S4 equipped with the cover to be charged on any other Qi-standard charging base, as well as Samsung's own.

Powermat acquires PowerKiss, extends wireless charging into Europe

Duracell-backed charging company adds 1,000 more charging points

PowerKiss, a wireless charging company based in Helsinki, Finland, has been acquired by Powermat, also a creator of wireless charging systems for mobile devices. The purchase will bring PowerKiss under the Duracell-backed brand, adding its 1,000 wireless charging points in European McDonalds branches and airports to the existing 1,500 Powermat-owned charging spots in the United States.

Power Matters Alliance gains three new members

AT&T, Google, and Starbucks all announced today that they would be joining the Power Matters Alliance, a consortium of device manufacturers, carriers, and physical establishments committed to the creation of a real-world ecosystem of wireless power. Starbucks will be adding wireless power stations to 17 locations in the Boston area for a limited time in-store trial, while AT&T has begun selling PMA-compatible wireless power cases and charging surfaces in select markets. Google, meanwhile, sees the standard as a means of "doing for power what the Internet did for data."

Nexus 4 to come in 8GB and 16GB models

An apparent quick start guide for the forthcoming Nexus 4 smartphone from LG has leaked to the Internet, revealing new details on the Nexus 4's storage, as well as a wireless charging feature. The charging feature -- previously seen in Palm's Touchstone-compatible handsets and the forthcoming Windows 8 Lumia devices from Nokia -- was not apparent in any previous information leaks on the new Google-LG smartphone.
