European launch of dual-screen Russian smartphone takes place in London

Yota Devices is bringing the YotaPhone 2 to market this month with a launch in Europe, starting with a pop-up shop in London tonight, before a wider release next year. The smartphone retains the same e-paper rear display concept as its predecessor, which can be used for various smartphone functions without using too much battery life, but houses it and other upgraded components inside a sleeker, curved casing.

Dual-screen YotaPhone sequel may have extra battery-saving mode

Yota Devices is making its second attempt on the smartphone market, with another dual-screen Android device. Just like the original, the new YotaPhone 2 will continue to have a normal touchscreen on the face, while on the back will be a similar-sized e-ink display, which can be used to display static information in black and white without using much battery power.

YotaPhone with secondary e-paper display goes on sale in UK

The YotaPhone, an Android smartphone from Yota Devices with an energy-saving rear 360x640 e-paper display accompanying the conventional 4.3-inch 720x1280 screen, has gone on sale in the United Kingdom. Sold through the company's own online store for £419 ($696), notes ZDNet, the dual-screen device has a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 1,800mAh battery.

Dual-screen YotaPhone will expand availability in early 2014

Yota Devices has started shipping its dual-screened YotaPhone, a smartphone that sports a pair of displays. On the front is a typical 4.3-inch 720x1280-resolution LCD screen, while on the back is a 360x640 e-paper display, one which can be used to read ebooks, display signs or messages, or even as a low-power alternative to the LCD screen when the battery needs to be recharged.

Yota Devices, a Russian-based hardware producer, is planning to sell its dual-screened YotaPhone before the end of this year. The YotaPhone uses a 4.3-inch 720x1280 LCD screen on the front, while on the back is a similar-sized 360x640-resolution e-paper display, with a touch-sensitive area below the second display for gesture controls.
