Title changed to reflect reboot, but updates some classic shooter elements

Late last week at QuakeCon in Dallas, id Software gave attendees an exclusive reveal of the new Doom game from the company. Doom 4 has witnessed turmoil in its production, since ZeniMax-owned Bethesda Softworks acquired id Software in 2009. However, the company finally showed off gameplay footage at QuakeCon, after promising information on the title since 2010.

Document claims Palmer Luckey invented device in 2010 before contact with ZeniMax

It appears that the battle between Oculus VR and ZeniMax Media may be heating up. In a filing with the United States District Court in Texas today, Oculus defended its position that the company has not stolen any intellectual property. Oculus asked for a jury trial in the filing, while accusing ZeniMax of using an opportunistic ploy to get money out of the company on the back of its success and acquisition by Facebook.

Suit seeks recompense in the wake of Facebook buyout deal

Parent company of the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, and its founder Palmer Luckey, are being sued by ZeniMax. The suit codifies previous complaints by ZeniMax that Luckey and Oculus Chief Technology Officer John Carmack used ZeniMax trade secrets relating to virtual reality technology to build the Oculus Rift headset, and infringed ZeniMax copyrights and trademarks doing so.

Oculus VR responds to Zenimax Media's virtual reality theft claims

VR headset company clarifies points over game publisher's legal letters

Oculus VR has fired back at Zenimax Media in a statement today over claims that Oculus's Rift headset benefited from the appropriation of virtual reality intellectual property owned by Zenimax, allegedly taken by a former employee. The virtual reality work of former Id Software and Zenimax employee John Carmack, done while he was with the company, is said to have been used to advance the Rift headset at a rapid rate. Carmack currently holds the position of chief technology officer with Oculus VR.

Peter Luckey signed NDA before demo of ZeniMax VR prototype

A non-disclosure agreement signed by Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey may be the key piece of evidence held by ZeniMax against the nascent VR company. Game publisher ZeniMax says the document, which appears to be a fairly standard non-disclosure agreement giving Luckey access to a virtual reality demo, entitles them to take legal action against Oculus, and the document may bolster Zenimax's intellectual property theft claims against Oculus.

ZeniMax claims John Carmack misappropriated company VR IP upon departure

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset may be about to fall victim to a patent lawsuit. Game developer ZeniMax Media, previous employer of John Carmack, Oculus' chief technology officer, is claiming that Carmack appropriated ZeniMax's intellectual property related to virtual reality and took it with him to Oculus. Zenimax is claiming that the IP theft allowed Oculus to grow quickly, and take advantage of Facebook's $2 billion dollar buyout offer, which has yet to close.

We chat with id's Rafael Brown at E3 2011

Legendary first-person shooter developer id Software was at the Bethesda booth for E3 2011 as part of its tie in with ZeniMax, and we got a chance to talk to the company's Rafael Brown, who handles much of the company's mobile work. He discussed the company's current hesitation on Android and gave us brief hints about iPad 2 and iPhone 5 plans, the Sony PSVita, and even hints of a Mac port of Rage.
