New edition compatible with iOS and Android with simultaneous analog connection
Unlike its predecessor -- which only recently added support for Android devices (and then just the Galaxy Note 4) -- the iRig 2 guitar-to-phone interface, announced today, will support both iOS and Android right out of the gate, developer IK Multimedia says. Outputs on the device have been improved and added -- not only provide studio-quality sound from a smartphone, but to allow musicians to additionally plug into a traditional amplifier without an adapter.
4K video streaming, multi-gigabit file transfer, and WiFi Networking
Networking hardware maker Peraso of Toronto, Canada focuses its efforts on designing integrated circuits but doesn't fabricate its own designs, instead outsourcing them to "foundries" -- as such, Peraso refers to itself as a "fabless semiconductor company." Next week at CES, however, it will be demonstrating a new USB 3.0 adaptor for the 802.11ad standard also known as "WiGig." The standard offers LAN speeds up to 10 times that of conventional Wi-Fi, and the adapter is expected to help home equipment take advantage of the increased speed as 802.11ad becomes more commonly used.
Addonics' Wi-Fi Drive Adapter enables wireless sharing of USB drive, micro SD card
Addonics Technologies has announced its network device for wireless sharing of a USB drive or micro SD card, or for use as a wireless hotspot. The Wi-Fi Drive Adapter can share drive or card content upon insertion into the adapter. To share an Internet connection, a hotspot can be created by connecting the Wi-Fi Drive Adapter to a Local Area Network with an Internet connection. Including one RJ45 socket for 10/100Mbps Ethernet connections, the Wi-Fi Drive Adapter supports the 802.11b/g/n standard with a range of up to 150 feet. Priced at $50, the Addonic Wi-Fi Drive Adapter can be purchased online.
'HDMI' signal is actually compressed, but will improve with OS update
The teardown of Apple's Lightning-to-HDMI iPad mini adapter done by developers at Panic has revealed a bit of misleading advertising from Apple's product page for the adapter: while the adapter does indeed produce a 1080p image on a television, it has been compressed using H.264 -- resulting in some compression artifacts. While inferior to the previous (and cheaper) 30pin-to-HDMI adapter Apple still sells for older iOS devices, the problem is expected to be resolved in a future software update -- thanks to the Lightning adapter's future-proofing.

Adapter reads 170MB/s, writes 120MB/s, bootable
OWC has launched a new eSATA ExpressCard adapter for MacBooks. The card, which is rated for 3GB/s, is hot swappable and fits flush inside the MacBook frame, making for easy transport within the MacBook. The new card is ACHI compliant, requiring no drivers for any Mac notebook running Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.
Dr. Bott delivers HDMI adapter with audio support

While may not have plans for its own branded adapters to provide HDMI with audio, Dr. Bott has announced its Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter II. The adapter supports the new audio-out capabilities of 2010 MacBook Pros and supports HDCP copy protection, allowing a MacBook Pro to connect to an HDTV via its HDMI port. the adapter is plug-and-play -- it does not require use of a driver and does not require a restart.
New 3G antenna ships
Modem Mate is launching an external antenna for USB-based 3G modems that lack an antenna connector. The device couples inductively with the internal antenna of most 3G modems. The antenna ships with an adapter that features a fastening strip for attaching/detaching the coupler to a 3G modem. The antenna then clips to the upper portion of the display for the best signal strength.
